DAVIS, Calif. – The struggles at home continue for UC Davis, falling in four sets to a talented Long Beach State team on Saturday afternoon inside the University Credit Union Center.
"We got off to a much better start tonight," said Head Coach
Dan Conners. "We played our game a high level for long stretches. Long Beach State played well and consistently, credit to them for their effort."
The Aggies fall to 11-11 overall (6-6 Big West) as they have now lost three of their last four decisions in Big West play. The Beach improve to 16-6 (10-2 Big West) and extend its win streak to six games.
It was another difficult day for UC Davis on the offensively, hitting just .169 as a team with 22 attack errors. Inconsistency at the service line also plagued the Aggies with 15 service errors in the contest. Long Beach State was firing on all cylinders, hitting an impressive .328 with Elise Agi leading the way with a game-high 18 kills.
Megan Lenn was fully back in the lineup after missing significant time due to injury and appeared to back to full strength with her 10-kill, six-dig showing.
Jade Light paced UC Davis with a team-high 13 kills while
Ally Chandler matched her season-best hitting performance with eight of her own.
Enjoying another solid game was
Mia Starr with her team-high 24 assists and five digs.
Set 1
The first two sets were hotly contested as Long Beach State was forced to mount an impressive comeback to snatch the first frame 25-23. When trailing 18-13, the Beach rallied for eight consecutive points to switch the momentum. The Aggies managed to come within two points of victory at 23-22, but the visitors won the next three points to snatch the first set.
Set 2
In one of the most exciting sets of the season, UC Davis prevailed in a 30-28 thriller of a second set. Neither team took a lead larger than three points in the back-and-forth battle. It was a bit sloppy as attack errors became the primary source of points in the frame, but the Aggies held strong to win the marathon and even things up at 1-1.
Set 3
Long Beach State regained its earlier form to grab the third set in convincing fashion, winning the set 25-19.
Set 4
The Beach cruised to victory in the final set as the Aggies were unable to find any rhythm offensively.

The Ags return to the University Credit Union Center on Nov. 2 to host UC Irvine. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
