Aggies Set to Begin Six-Game Homestand

DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis enters an exciting period in its schedule as a six-game homestand begins tomorrow night at the University Credit Union Center.

TALE OF THE TAPE
Oct. 26  vs. UC San Diego | 6  p.m. | Davis, Calif. | Live Stats | Live Video
The Aggies were victorious when they took on the Tritons in La Jolla, earning a four-set win behind season-best performances from Olivia Utterback and Jade Light. This extended UC Davis' advantage in the all-time series to 13-11, making it four straight wins. The Tritons are coming off of back-to-back victories over Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine as they sit sixth place in the Big West standings, occupying what would be the final spot in the inaugural conference tournament. Ava McInnes continues to be a key player for her squad as her 3.8 kills-per-set is the best mark in the Big West.

Oct. 28 vs. Long Beach State | 1 p.m. | Davis, Calif. | Live Stats | Live Video
It was quick work for The Beach when two teams met in Southern California, downing the Aggies in straight sets. UC Davis hit just .112 on the night which is its second-worst hitting performance of the season. Long Beach State now leads the all-time series 30-6, winning four straight contests. The second-place Beach take a four-game winning streak into the week and sit in second-place in the conference standings. Saturday's opponents bring a load of firepower as they lead the Big West in points-per-set (17.41), hitting percentage (.241), and service aces-per-set (1.78).

LAST WEEK
After falling via the sweep to second-place Hawai'i in a midweek clash, the Aggies turned things around to grab a sweep of their own at UC Riverside.

UC Davis earned its first sweep of the season on Thursday night at SRC Arena, taking down UC Riverside in straight sets to start the second half of Big West Conference play. It was a stellar offensive night for the Aggies as the team logged a hitting percentage of .309 which is its second-highest mark of the season. Jade Light enjoyed a fantastic night with a game-high 14 kills at a .367 clip while picking up five digs defensively.

Reese Diersbock impressed with her eight-kill, eight-dig showing while Olivia Utterback turned in a steady performance with seven kills and eight digs in the contest.

Mia Starr continues to excel in her setting role as she dished out 35 assists, racked up four digs, and got involved in two blocks. Rounding out a great night for the freshman class was Ally Chandler who notched seven kills while hitting .429, but came up big on the defensive end with her five blocks.

750 CLUB
Olivia Utterback recently reached 750 kills for her career. She has been exceptional in her junior season, posting a team-high 247 kills and 3.09 kills-per set, ranking sixth in the conference in both categories. Her 3.79 points-per-set is fifth-best in the Big West but Utterback has also played a huge role in the defense, tallying 164 digs which is the second-most on the team.

EYES ON THE PRIZE
The Big West will feature a postseason conference tournament for the first time in the conference's history following the 2023 regular season. This brand-new championship event will reward the winner with the league's automatic big into the field of the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. The Aggies will hope to be playing their best volleyball Nov. 22-25 in Long Beach for the inaugural conference tournament.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
UC Davis has added seven talented freshmen to the roster who look to break onto the scene in their first seasons wearing the Blue and Gold.
Two middle blockers, Ally Chandler and Allie Caldwell, will compete for significant playing time at the position while Breeze Czapinski, Reese Diersbock, Rachel Dunagan, and Brooke Hibino will provide depth at outside hitter. Mia Starr rounds out the group of the newcomers as the lone setter of the 2023 signing class.
