SEATTLE, Wash. – The UC Davis track and field team opened the indoor season in impressive fashion on Saturday at the UW Preview Invite held at the Dempsey Indoor.

The Aggies placed high in the field events, especially the throws as newcomer Rebel Tuinukuafe won her flight and finished eighth overall in the shot put with a heave of 43-5.25 (13.24m). Ashpreet Kler led a 2-3-4 Aggie charge in the weight throw as the sophomore recorded a toss of 54-08.25 (16.67m) to finish as the runner-up. Hailey Hernandez followed in third at 53-08.25 (16.36m) Brena Videll was fourth with a mark of 52-09.50 (16.09m).

In the jumps, newcomer Kylee Davis soared to the event victory with a leap of 19-2.50 (5.85m). The mark is the second best by an Aggie in indoor history. Senior Chelsea Daye closely followed in second with a jump of 18-9.25 (5.72m). Junior Kerrington Smith was fourth in the triple jump with a 38.2 (11.63m).

On the track the Aggie quartet of Alexys Ford, Maya Shinnick, Janae Oneal, Chelsea Daye placed fifth overall in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:57.16.

UC Davis returns to Dempsey Indoor for the UW Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27.
