SAN FRANCISCO – The UC Davis cross country team completed its first meet of the season Saturday at the USF Invitational. The Aggie women placed fifth in their 6k race while the men tallied a sixth-place showing in the 8k at Golden Gate Park.
The UC Davis women recorded 140 points and were led by sophomore
Brianna Weidler, who crossed the line in 14
th overall with a time of 21:45.40. Classmate
Madison Kackley closely followed in 16
th with a time of 21:46.30 and in her Aggie debut,
Kayla Rutz finished in 31
st with a 22:21.50.
Junior
Emma Arriaga (23:22.10) and freshman
Maddie Coles (23:24.60) came in back-to-back at 56
th and 57
th, respectively, while junior
Julia Marriott rounded out the Aggie scorers in 68
th with a time of 23:48.60.
A pair of sophomores were the 6-7 finishers for UC Davis as
Julia Pearson (82
nd) ran a 24:40.80 and
Katelyn Vuong (83
rd) 24:44.00.
In the men's 8k, the Aggies posted 159 points and were paced by newcomer
Chris Coles, who placed 21
st overall with a 25:35.30. Fellow freshman
Alex Bobowski followed in 30
th place with a 25:55.60 and junior
Simon Fuller followed in 40
th with a 26:12.90.
Another rookie scored for the Aggies as
Zachary Graeber placed 44
th with a time of 26:15.20. Sophomore
Dylan Gunn was 51
st overall with a time of 26:26.30 and newcomer
Chance Tokubo rounded out UC Davis in 72
nd place with a 26:57.90.
In a fun competition, the Aggies fielded two teams in the mixed 4x2,000m race as UC Davis 'B' won the event with a time of 25:52.77 and the 'A' squad was fifth with a 26:35:53.
UC Davis will train through the second weekend of the regular season before returning to the course at the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17.
