OPENING TIP
Saturday's home date against Hawai'i brings another chance for the Aggies to build momentum and gain ground in the Big West Conference standings.
The Aggies got back in the win column on Tuesday against UC Riverside with a 65-60 win and on Saturday they'll welcome a Hawai'i team coming off a loss the Highlanders.
UC Davis came up with timely runs throughout Tuesday's road win to move to 2-3 in Big West games thus far.
An 11-1 run over from 9:22 until 4:36 left in the first half turned a two-point Aggie lead into a 28-16 advantage that allowed UC Davis to carry a 32-22 lead into the locker room. The Aggies maintained a double-digit lead to begin the second half, leading by as much as 50-34 with 10:02 to go, UC Davis were able to respond to a Highlanders charge down the stretch. Over the next 7:37 of game time, UC Riverside engineered a 19-6 run during which the Aggies went 2-7 with three turnovers.
It was
Caleb Fuller to the rescue though as the junior hit a three with 2:06 to go and a jumper with 56 seconds left to put the Aggies up six.
Ezra Manjon led UC Davis with 19 points, his ninth straight game in double-digits. Fuller continued to fill up the stat sheet in a variety of ways, adding 14 points with eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. It was Fuller's fourth straight game with five or more rebounds and the Aggies' '3' guard has added 16 assists over that span.
Facing a Highlanders team that went on to knock off the No. 1 team in the conference two days later, the Aggies held UC Riverside to 37.3 percent shooting and 26.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Aggies' six blocks were also their most in a game since recording seven in a win over Eastern Washington on Nov. 12.
SERIES RECORD VS. HAWAI'I

- Last UH win: 3/5/21 - A, 73-68
- Last UC Davis win: 3/6/21 - H, 74-66
- Series Streak: UC Davis +1
KEYS TO SUCCESS
There are a few areas that have been key to success for the Aggies this season that they'll try to get back to against the Rainbow Warriors:
• Though the Aggies are now 6-2 on the season when having four players score in double figures, that statistic is coupled with the reality that UC Davis is playing with close to a full bench for the first time since Dec. 22 against Portland. Jan. 27 against Cal State Fullerton was the first time since that Dec. date that the Aggies had more than eight players available and the rising comfort level of that group will be important.
• The Aggies are now three games removed from a four-game stretch in which they turned the ball over 10 times or less per game. They've committed 41 over their last three games that have turned into 35 opponent points. UC Davis have overwhelmingly committed those turnovers in second halves of this two-game stretch with 10 of their 16 against Cal State Fullerton, 7 of their 13 against Long Beach State, and 7 of their 12 against UC Riverside coming in the second half. Even with Saturday night's total, UC Davis still commits the 15th fewest turnovers in the country.
• After enduring a three-game stretch in which they failed to shoot better than 70 percent from the free throw line, the Aggies have recovered to go 23-32 from the line over their last two games. Meanwhile, they've benefited from Long Beach State and UC Riverside going a combined 31-48 from the line. UC Davis have committed the 24th fewest fouls in the nation.
• The Aggies have not allowed an opponent to shoot over 40 percent from the three-point line in five straight games.
• UC Davis broke a two-game slide in which it had shot under 40 percent from the field by shooting 46.3 percent against UC Riverside. The Aggies are 8-3 when shooting at least 40 percent and 3-0 when shooting 50 percent or more from the field.
• UC Davis' 6-12 night from three was the first time since Dec. 4 against UC Merced that the Aggies have shot at least 50 percent from beyond the arc.
ANIGWE ON THE BOARDS
Christian Anigwe had career highs in points and rebounds against Cal Poly but it was his effort on the boards that set him apart.
Single-game offensive rebounds aren't a historically tracked stat, but since they began to be statted in the Division 1 era beginning in 2007, none had more than Anigwe's nine offensive rebounds at Cal Poly.
One possible candidate that could have surpassed nine offensive rebounds would be Dominic Callori's school record 24 rebounds at Sonoma State on Feb. 16, 2001.
At his current pace, Anigwe could end up with one of the highest offensive rebounding totals in recent program history.
With six offensive boards against CSUN on Jan. 20 and eight more against Cal State Fullerton, Anigwe had 23 over a three games stretch.
Even with being limited due to a knee injury over the Aggies last two games, five of Anigwe's eight rebounds in those games have been offensive boards and he's still 52nd in the nation in offensive rebounds per game (2.93).
TEAM EFFORT
UC Davis is knocking on the door of replicating a rare feat they accomplished last season.
The 2020-21 season marked the first time since 2008-09 that the Aggies had four players average double figures scoring. The 2021-22 Aggies currently have four themselves between
Ezra Manjon (15.1),
Elijah Pepper (14.9),
Caleb Fuller (11.6) and
Christian Anigwe (10.4)
The 2008-09 Aggies were led by Vince Oliver, the brother of current Director of Basketball Operations
Ryan Oliver, with 15.6 points per game.
CAREER WATCH LISTS
Manjon is also within striking distance of a career milestone in his third NCAA season.
At 909 points, Manjon needs 91 more to reach 1,000 career points. Manjon's career-high point total for a single season came in 2019-20 when he scored 388 points behind Aggie great
Joe Mooney's 419.
Manjon would need to average just 11 points per game over the Aggies final 10 regular season games to accomplish that feat this season.
Pepper is the next closest Aggie at 781 career points. His career-high of 278 also came in 2019-20, though Pepper will eclipse that this season.
23 Aggies have reached the 1,000 point milestone with the last being Siler Scheider scoring 1,440 from 2015-19. Should Manjon reach that mark this season, he would be one of just five Aggies to score 1,000 points or more in their first three seasons.
