DAVIS, Calif. — Before the start of Friday's America East matchup at Aggie Field Hockey Facility, UC Davis honored its two graduating seniors,
Carli Colyer and
Emily Chen ,in a pregame ceremony. Once action began, player guests were treated to an exciting rivalry matchup that saw the Aggies score three goals within a six-minute timespan to chop its halftime deficit to a pair of goals.
After
Brooke Sanchez kicked-off the Aggies' scoring spree with a chip shot that beat the Cardinal's goalkeeper, Chen found the back of the cage two minutes later to continue UC Davis' comeback.
An action-packed third quarter continued three minutes later when Skyler Richards scored her first collegiate goal, which knocked Stanford on its heels since UC Davis dominated play throughout the 15-minute period and only trailed by two entering the final quarter.
But two late Cardinal goals prevented the Aggies from completely erasing their deficit as Stanford earned a 7-3 victory in this year's Farm vs. Farm contest that doubled as the official America East meeting between these teams for the year. since last week's contest at Stanford was a designated non-conference event.
Led by
Jordan Engdahl,
Madison Theodore and
Sophia Lizalde with two, 10 different Aggies recorded a shot in their team's final spring home game.
UC Davis will return to action on Thursday, April 15, when it faces Vermont at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET in a neutral-site contest that will take place at UMass Lowell. The Aggies will enter that game with a 1-7 overall and 0-5 America East record.
Stanford will continue its season at 6-0 and 4-0.
