LOWELL, Mass. — Trailing 3-2 in Thursday morning's America East neutral-site game that took place at Cushing Field in Lowell, Massachusetts, Madison Theodore tied the score with 3:44 seconds left in regulation on UC Davis' seventh corner of the game.

Earning assists on that play were Emily Chen and Izzy Porco.

As time wound down, Vermont drew a penalty corner of its own, with 38 seconds remaining, which set up the game-winning goal when Kate Hall collected a rebound from teammate Sydney Melfi's shot, taken on that penalty corner within a pack of players in front of the Aggies' cage, to edge UC Davis by a 4-3 score.

Field hockey will now head to Orono, Maine, for its next two games, starting with Saturday's neutral-site matchup against Monmouth. The Aggies will enter that contest with a 1-8 overall and 0-6 America East record.

Vermont will return home for its final game of the year with records of 2-7 and 2-5.

Even though the Catamounts struck first by scoring the game's first goal 63 second after action began, Chen scored the Aggies' first goal midway through the second quarter to tie the game at 1-1.

Three minutes later, Vermont regained the lead when it scored with 2:48 before halftime. That was the last Catamount highlight for a while since UC Davis absolutely dominated play throughout the entire third quarter.

In addition to earning both corners taken throughout that 15-minute block of action, the Aggies were responsible for six of seven shots, five of the six shots on cage and the only goal when Milou Korthouwer converted a penalty stroke midway through the quarter.

Thursday's back-and-forth battle continued throughout the final period, starting with a Catamount goal scored 1:41 after action resumed. Leading 3-2, it held that advantage for 10 minutes until Theodore scored off the Aggies' seventh, and final corner of the day, to pull them even with their opponent once again.

That 3-3 score nearly lasted until the end of regulation, were it not for a Vermont goal that took place with 29 seconds on the clock.

The Catamounts were fortunate to escape with this result since their pair of defensive saves prevented the Aggies from finding the back of the cage. The first took place in the run of action preceding Chen's strike the second potential UC Davis goal was thwarted two minutes after Korthouwer's penalty stroke, and would have given it a 3-2 lead entering the fourth quarter.

UC Davis will compete in its second game within a three-day timespan when it faces Monmouth in Saturday morning's America East matchup. A video stream and live stats are available for that 8 a.m. PT / 11 a.m. ET contest.
