LAS VEGAS — This is why it's called March Madness: After a back-and-forth battle throughout Thursday's Air Force Reserve Men's Basketball Championship, presented by the Hawaiian Islands quarterfinal, sophomore guard
Ezra Manjon's driving layup, scored with one second remaining in the game, allowed the No. 4-seeded Aggies to earn a berth in Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal against top-seeded UC Santa Barbara.

Even though the Gauchos swept the season series in Davis, those games were the Aggies' third and fourth following their seven-week pause to remain compliant with Yolo County Health orders.
In that series finale, 12 tied scores took place throughout a game that remaining within one possession throughout the final 8:12 of regulation. Of the eight threes hit by Manjon that game, it was his last one, scored with under a minute remaining, that created UC Davis' inaugural OT situation of the season.
Before facing UCSB in their first Big West post-pause home games, the Aggies won two of the previous three and five of eight head-to-head matchups.
UC Santa Barbara earned its spot in the semifinals with a 95-87 win over Long Beach State, by pulling away late, following a flagrant foul that doubled its lead from four to eight points in the final minute of that quarterfinal.
Three of the league's top six scorers will compete in the day's first men's semifinal. During league play, UC Davis sophomore guards
Elijah Pepper and Manjon ranked No. 2 and No. 6 respectively at 16.6 and 14.8 points per game, and will face Jaquori McLaughlin who led the Gauchos at 16.0 ppg with the BWC's third-highest scoring average.
