DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomores
Leslie Fregoso and
Risa Yamada were named to the first team, while newcomer
Jayde Holley earned second-team and all-freshman team laurels, as the Big West Conference announced its 2021 all-conference honors on Wednesday afternoon.
All three student-athletes picked up their first career All-Big West awards, while the Aggies placed two on the first team in the same season for the first time since Mary Beth Mazurek and Ashley Edwards did so in 2013.
Meanwhile, Holley gave UC Davis a member of the all-freshman team for the seventh straight season and became the eighth different Aggie to earn a spot on that honor roll, which includes Fregoso, who was named to the team in 2019.
Fregoso led the team in 2021 with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points at the end of the regular season, leading the league with 75 shots (4.17 per game) and tied for first in assists, while also finishing sixth in goals, second in game-winning goals (four), third in shots on goal (31), and third in points.
The Live Oak, Calif., native's 22 points rank second on the program's Division I single-season list while standing as the highest point total since Rochelle Van Buskirk finished with 30 (13 goals, four assists) in 2009. Meanwhile, the eight assists are also a program Division I record and the most since Cynthia Rail's 10 helpers in 2001.
In her first season at the Division I level, Yamada scored six goals and added four assists to finish second on the team in scoring with 16 points. She ended the regular season ranked tied for seventh in the league in goals scored and eighth in total points.
One of four players to start all 18 matches, Holley helped spearhead a defense that ranked third in the Big West in fewest goals allowed (22) and goals against average (1.22), while adding a goal and an assist of her own against Saint Mary's and UNLV, respectively.
UC Davis finished the 2021 campaign with a 10-8 overall record and a 5-5 mark in Big West play, posting the program's first winning season -- and the first with 10-or-more wins -- since the Aggies wrapped up the 2015 campaign with a 10-7-2 overall record.
