DAVIS, Calif. -- Former UC Davis golfer Demi Runas will join four other former student-athletes as part of the 2020 Cal Aggie Athletics Hall of Fame induction class, Director of Athletics Kevin Blue announced.
Runas will be inducted on Friday, September 4, joining water polo player Carmen Eggert, golfer Matt Hansen, gymnast Michelle Kulovitz Alencar, and distance runner Sarah Sumpter.
Put simply, Runas remains the most decorated player in UC Davis women's golf history. In her career from 2009 to 2013, she earned four first-team All-Big West Conference awards and three Big West Player of the Year nods. The Torrance, Calif., product also earned All-America status from the WCGA (second team) and Golfweek (third team) as a senior, when she also became the first golfer to win the Hubert Heitman Award as the university's outstanding female athlete of the year.
Runas also helped UC Davis capture the Big West team championship every year, adding an individual title of her own in 2013. The Aggies made the NCAA postseason all four years, and advanced from the regional to the national finals in her sophomore and senior seasons.
Entering the 2020 season, Runas remains the program's career leader in scoring average (73.91), top-10 finishes (31) and top-five finishes (18), while her senior season totals of a 72.63 average, 19 rounds of par or better, 11 top-10 finishes and eight top-five finishes remain school records.
Runas graduated from UC Davis with her degree in communication in 2013. She won her first professional title on the Cactus Tour that summer, then later achieved another program milestone by becoming the first Aggie to earn her LPGA Tour card, thanks to a ninth-place finish on the Symetra Tour's 2014 money list. Runas has played 45 events on the LPGA Tour, and remains a Symetra Tour pro today.
The CAAHOF selection committee also chose recipients of the Aggie Legacy Award, which honors former student-athletes for their post-UC Davis achievements in athletics; and the Special Recognition Award, bestowed upon those for their volunteer service to the Aggie intercollegiate athletics. The recipients of those two awards will be announced next week.
