Mid-distances shine on day two at Husky Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. — With just three in competition on the second day of the Husky Classic, both UC Davis freshmen excelled in the 1 mile, setting all-time marks to close the weekend, while Anaya Ward opened her 800m campaign.

In the 1 mile, freshmen Chloe Arriaga and Sierra Atkins raced together in the third heat of the meet, with both picking up what would have been fifth all-time honors had the other not been in competition.

C. Arriaga finished in 4:51.24, officially taking the fifth spot in the all-time list, with Sierra Atkins close behind in 4:53.48, sitting sixth behind C. Arriaga for a personal best, bettering her debut of 4:57.13 at the UW Invitational.

In the women's 800m, Anaya Ward put up her second-fastest indoor time, crossing in 2:13.41 for 31st overall.

UC Davis will get their last look at an NCAA qualifying opportunity at the MPSF Indoor Championships in two weeks, hosted at Dempsey Indoor at UW on Feb. 28-29.
