DAVIS, Calif. — Three preseason tournaments, including the annual 10-team, 19-match, Aggie Roundup, and individual contests against 10 opponents that appeared in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association final poll highlight the UC Davis men's water polo team's 2019 schedule announced by Child And Meisel Families Director of Men's Water Polo
Daniel Leyson on Monday.
The Aggies, who finished the 2018 season with an 18-8 overall record and a 6-1 mark in Western Water Polo Association play, open their season at the two-day Triton Invitational (Sept. 7-8) hosted by UC San Diego, before battling perennial power California, which finished last season ranked No. 4 in the nation, in Berkeley, Calif.
UC Davis then returns home to host the 10-team Aggie Roundup from Sept. 20-22, featuring four top-10 teams from last season's final poll — Stanford (No. 2), the Golden Bears, Pacific (No. 8), and the host Aggies (No. 10) — along with WWPA rivals California Baptist (No. 16) and Santa Clara (No. 19), as well as San Jose State (receiving votes).
Three matches on Friday (Sept. 20) has UC Davis opening the tournament — and league play — against the Lancers at Noon, with contests against Stanford (Sept. 21 at 2:15 p.m.), California (Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m.), and NAIA foe Ottawa University (Sept. 22 at 11:45 a.m.) to follow.

The Aggies return to the road for the three-day MPSF Invitational from Sept. 27-29 hosted by UCLA at the Spieker Aquatics Center and a single match with rival Pacific on Oct. 4 in Stockton, Calif.
Four of the next five contests have UC Davis playing in front of the hometown faithful as the Aggies close out non-conference play against San Jose State (Oct. 6) before kicking off a run of six straight WWPA contests at Air Force on Oct. 12.
Home matches against Fresno Pacific (Oct. 18), Concordia (Oct. 20), and Santa Clara (Nov. 2), follow, before UC Davis closes the regular season in Southern California, traveling to Loyola Marymount (Nov. 7) and defending league champion UC San Diego (Nov. 9).
California Baptist hosts the WWPA Championships for the first time in 2019, welcoming the league's seven other members to Riverside, Calif., for the three-day tournament which runs from Nov. 22-24.
The Aggies advanced to the championship match of the WWPA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season in 2018, falling to the top-seeded Tritons, 11-10, after claiming the title in both 2016 and 2017.
The National Collegiate Water Polo Championship will be hosted by Pacific in Stockton, Calif., from Dec. 7-8.
