The short story: Nine goals across two games from
Thomas Kiesling led the way for UC Davis water polo at the BW Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Ags lost a close game to San Jose State in the morning before dropping a shootout to LMU in the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
- Three minutes into the game, Timothy Kerr cashed it in to put his team up 1-0.
- A pair of responses from the Spartans were broken up by goals from William Fosselman and Thomas Marr, giving the Aggies a 3-2 lead after the first.
- Marr's second and two from Kiesling led the way for UC Davis in the second quarter.
- However, a couple of goals from SJSU's Maro Tiozzo matched his team's score from the first period, giving Davis a 6-4 lead at the half.
- At the six-minute mark of the third, Fosselman found the back of the net for his second of the day.
- But a flurry of goals from San Jose State sparked a 4-0 scoring run, scoring two in the third and two in the fourth to take their first lead, 8-7.
- With time running out, the Aggies turned to Brody Crouch, whose tally tied things up at eight apiece.
- However, with 20 seconds left, Mateja Bosić for the Spartans scored, securing the win for his team and an 8-9 loss for UC Davis.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
- Coming out of the gate, Kiesling got his first of the match and third of the day to give his team a 1-0 advantage.
- But the Lions went to work in the final five minutes of the period, scoring three straight to go up 3-1.
- In the second, Kiesling secured a hat trick with two quick goals, tying things up at 3 all.
- After two from LMU's Nico Furneaux, Adam Ting got his first of the day to cut the deficit to one.
- But Loyola Marymount got the last of the period, going into halftime up 6-4.
- Two from Oleg Shatskikh and one from Gabe Bensen led the scoring effort for the Aggies in the third, but six total goals in the period from the Lions gave them a 12-7 lead going into the final quarter.
- Kiesling led the offensive effort in the fourth quarter, scoring four total goals in the period.
- Will Stryker added on with his first tally of the day, but four goals from Loyola Marymount made the difference for the Aggies, who would fall 12-16 to finish off the day.
UP NEXT: UC Davis begins Big West conference play when they face off against UC Irvine on Friday, Oct. 10. The game is set to start at 6:00 p.m. PT.
