The short story: Four goals from Thomas Kiesling and three from William Fosselman led the way for UC Davis men's water polo in its Big West conference win over UC Irvine on Friday, Oct. 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kiesling made his presence felt early, scoring the first two goals of the game for the Aggies.
  • After an Anteater response, he secured the hat trick with his third goal in seven minutes.
  • UC Irvine found the back of the net on a power-play goal, but the road team finished the first quarter up 3-2.
  • In the second, after seeing the opponent tie things at three apiece, Oleg Shatskikh got on the board with his first.
  • Timothy Kerr, Andrew Hitchcock, and Fosselman each added tallies in the period, but four goals from Irvine kept things close, with Davis entering halftime with a 7-6 advantage.
  • A minute into the second half, freshman Oriol Viñas added to the team's lead.
  • But two quick goals from the Anteaters tied up the match once again.
  • Fosselman, Kerr, and Viñas each capitalized on their second goals of the night, but each score was met with a response, giving the Ags a slim 11-10 lead going into the final eight minutes.
  • At the start of the fourth, Colin Nicholls cashed in on his first goal.
  • Kiesling's fourth and Hitchcock's second added onto the lead.
  • With a minute remaining and the Anteaters down only two, Fosselman put the game on ice with his third goal, securing his first hat trick of the season and giving his team the 15-12 win.
