AUSTIN, Texas — Senior and Davis local Kyle Clancy capped an outstanding career at UC Davis in his first appearance at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Texas at Austin.
Racing in the opening heat of the men's 110m hurdles against the top times in the world, Clancy crossed the line in 14 seconds flat to finish 18th overall in the field of 24 semifinalists. Clancy's time is the second fastest of his career, and still one of the fastest in UC Davis history.
Competing in the first heat alongside Clancy, Kentucky's Daniel Roberts raced to a 13.06 — a new NCAA Championship meet record. The top two finishers from each of the three heats earned an auto qualification to Friday's final, as well as the next two fastest times.
The Aggies will return to Mike A. Myers Stadium Friday through Saturday, for senior Erinn Beattie's women's heptathlon appearance. Beattie will start in the fifth heat of the 100m hurdles at 12:30 PM PT/2:30 PM CT.
