Aggies finish eighth at home tourney, returns to action at Big West Championship (Apr. 29-May 1)

EL MACERO, Calif. -- UC Davis sophomore Thomas Hutchison shot a 1-over-par 73 in the final round en route to a total of 1-under 215 and a tie for fourth place at the El Macero Classic men's collegiate golf tournament at the El Macero Country Club Sunday. The Aggies finished eighth as a team, totaling a 303 in the final round toward their 881 team score.

Hutchison, a mathematics major from San Jose, shot a 35 on the front nine to briefly take over first place on the individual leaderboard. However, Texas Tech's Ivan Ramirez and Cal State Fullerton's Matt Wilson rallied on the back nine to finish a stroke in front of Hutchison, while another Red Raider — 16th-ranked Sandy Scott — closed out with a birdie 4 on the home hole for a 213 final total and the outright tournament title

With Scott and Ramirez leading the way, No. 10 Texas Tech claimed the team championship with an even-par 864 through 54 holes, six strokes ahead of runner-up Oregon State and seven ahead of Cal State Fullerton.

UC Davis freshman Daniel Kim matched his teammate Hutchison's 73 for the team's low Sunday round. Kim finished in T11th place with 218 strokes. Senior Jesse Bratz finished T34th and freshman Natheethorn Teacharuangchit placed T47th to complete the Aggie scoring, with redshirt freshman Shane Muldowney wrapping his regular season with a T65th finish and 233 strokes. A sixth UC Davis player, junior transfer Jae Kim, finished one stroke in front of Muldowney for a piece of 62nd place.

This was the sixth installment of the El Macero Classic, which featured field of 15 teams and 80 players. The course measured at 7,146 yards during Sunday's final round.

The Aggies' home tourney also closes out the regular season. The team returns to action at the Big West Conference Championships, hosted by Hawai'i from April 29-May 1.
