UC Davis remains in team, individual title hunt heading into Sunday's final round

EL MACERO, Calif. -- Sophomore Thomas Hutchison birdied three straight holes on the back nine to fire a 4-under-par 68 overall, leading UC Davis in the second round of the El Macero Classic men's collegiate golf tournament at El Macero Country Club Saturday. The 2018 Big West Conference Freshman of the Year also jumped up into a tie for third on the leaderboard, just one off the two leaders from Texas Tech.

As a team, the Aggies held on to fourth place among the 15-team field, totaling a 288 for the day toward a 2-over 578 through 36 holes. No. 10 Texas Tech stormed into the lead, cutting 25 strokes from its Friday score with a 14-under 274 on Saturday. The Red Raiders have a 573-stroke total, two ahead of Cal State Fullerton and three in front of Oregon State.

Hutchison was the only UC Davis player under par, although freshman Natheethorn Teacharuangchit turned in an even-par 72 to move into a tie for 19th place with teammate Daniel Kim. Kim overcame a tough front nine to score a 4-under 32 on the back for a 73 on Saturday. Both Aggie freshmen have totals of 145 heading into Sunday's final round.

Senior Jesse Bratz scored a 3-over 75 to move into a tie for 24th place overall with 146 strokes. Redshirt freshman Shane Muldowney wrapped up the day in T58th place, while Aggie junior Jae Kim sits in T70th as an individual entrant.
