DAVIS, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's lacrosse team's 15-12 road win at Oregon held a few key accomplishments: it marks the first victory against a Pac-12 Conference member, and the season's first win against an opponent on its home turf. The Aggies will now look to continue that momentum into Friday's return to Aggie Stadium and a 4 p.m. home game against Central Michigan.
Sure, both accomplishments carry an asterisk. For starters, UC Davis had a road win this year, but it was on neutral territory – the 16-13 slugfest against Mercer at Jacksonville. Secondly, the Pac-12 did not begin sponsoring women's lacrosse until last year. However, even if you extend the current Pac-12 membership to its Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the last Aggie win over such a foe came on April 6, 2016 against Cal. The victory also marked the first in the UC Davis-Oregon series since April 29, 2010, also a road game.

The Aggies never trailed against Oregon, breaking away from the game's only two tie scores – at 3-3 in the 18th minute, and 9-9 in the 36th – almost immediately after the equalizing goals. Junior Amanda Outcalt led UC Davis offensively with three goals and a career-high five assists, while senior Taylor Cuenin netted a team-leading and season-best four goals. Outcalt went on to capture MPSF Offensive Player of the Week honors for her effort. The Aggies also dominated the draw to the tune of a 20-9 margin, with Kate Graham (8), Maddie Myers (7) and Mar Alvear (4) doing most of that damage.
Defensively, head coach Suzanne Isidor lauded the team's overall defense, particularly that of MPSF Defensive Player of the Week Anna Belenis and her work on Oregon's record-setting scorer, Shannon Williams. The Ducks managed 12 goals and Williams found the net three times, but UC Davis held down the UO attack at the key moments – as if Coach Isidor borrowed the "bend-don't-break" defensive style of the Aggie football coaches down the Cowell Building hall.Â
(Speaking of UC Davis football, that program will hold its Spring Game at Aggie Stadium immediately following the Aggies-Chippewas lacrosse matchup as part of a multi-sport doubleheader.)Â
Saturday's win at Oregon also saw another continuing trend for UC Davis: only 13 turnovers and a perfect 16-for-16 in clears (lacrosse lingo for advancing the ball from defense to offense without a turnover).
Central Michigan edged Cincinnati in a 12-11 overtime thriller last Friday. Three players had hat tricks in the win, inlcuding Jocelyn Lemay, who fired in the game-winner on an eight-meter chance in the 65th minute. Natalie Karlen, also among those to net three goals, leads the Chippewas with eight goals in three games entering the week. CMU will face UC Davis' MPSF rival San Diego State on Tuesday before making the trip north for Friday's game.
The Aggies-Chippewas game serves as a prelude for a San Diego road trip in which UC Davis takes on Bucknell (Sunday) and Lehigh (Tuesday) at San Diego State. Bucknell suffered a 13-10 setback to Robert Morris last weekend, while Wednesday's home matchup with UMBC has already been postponed due to severe weather. Sophomore attacker Eve Calabria paces the Bison offense with 12 total points (seven goals, five assists). Lehigh has won three straight and will face San Diego State as part of Sunday's doubleheader with the UC Davis-Bucknell game on Sunday. Junior midfielder Sondra Dickey already has 18 goals in just five games for the Mountain Hawks.

QUICK STICKS:
PROMOTIONS: Friday's contest is sponsored by the California burger chain In-N-Out... The first arriving UC Davis students will receive free gift cards... The March 16 game against Radford serves as the designated Alumni Day for the season... Alums may purchase a tailgate and T-shirt package through this link: https://bit.ly/2CRuTQQ.
HOMECOMING: UC Davis will have its fair share of friendly faces when visiting San Diego to take on the two Patriot League teams... Senior co-captain Natalie Garces (Westview HS), junior Sami Herrick (Cathedral Catholic HS), sophomore Ally Deremer (Canyon Crest Academy) and freshman Natalie Wilson (Coronado HS) all hail from the area.
BETTER BY THE PAIR: UC Davis has captured both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors three times in 2019, out of four possible weeks: Shannon Cross and Grace Richards won those respective awards on February 11, Sorana Larson and Mar Alvear on Febuary 25, and now Amanda Outcalt and Anna Belenis on Monday... The Aggies had both Defensive and Rookie awards three times in 2018, but only had the Offensive and Defensive accolades once: on April 23, when they swept all three categories.
REWRITING THE BOOKS: GK Grace Richards tallied her 200th career save in Saturday's win at Oregon... She is just the eighth Aggie in the 23-year varsity history to hit that milestone, entering Friday's CMU matchup with 201... Richards needs 52 to crack the school's top five list, with at least 10 games remaining on the 2019 schedule.
FAMILIAR FACES: Friday's contest is the first meeting with CMU, a member of the Southern Conference, although both teams have a common opponent thus far: the Chippewas lost their season opener, 20-4, to Michigan – one week after the Wolverines dispatched the Aggies by a 17-5 margin... CMU will have faced MPSF member San Diego State by the time they visit Aggie Stadium this weekend.
THE LEADERBOARD: UC Davis jumped up to 10th nationally in draw controls at 16.43 per game... Kate Graham leads the conference in that category and ranks 28th among all D-I players... Amanda Outcalt held steady at 18th in assists per game (2.43) and T4th in total assists (17)... She also sits T14th in total points with 27.
THE LOTO TICKET: Senior Ashley Lotoszynski made her collegiate debut at goalkeeper in Sunday's win over Mercer... She took over for starter Grace Richards for the final minutes... A fifth-year agriculture and environmental education major, Lotoszynski earned Big West Conference All-Freshman honors in 2015, then All-Big West honorable mention in 2017 for the Aggie softball team, but had never played lacrosse until joining the team last fall.
HOUSEMATES?: The March 8 lacrosse-football doubleheader continues a tradition of partnership between the two Aggie teams who call Aggie Stadium home... Head football coach Dan Hawkins has brought Coach Isidor on the Bud Light Coaches' Show on several occasions, including the lead-up to the former NCAA playoff win against Northern Iowa... The members of the Aggie women's lacrosse team serves on the game staff for all home football games... Furthermore, when Hawkins played fullback for UC Davis in the early 1980s, one of his teammates was Rob Cuenin (father of midfielder Taylor) while the coaching staff included Jim Belenis (father of defender Anna).
