DAVIS, Calif. -- After road losses at California and No. 21 Stanford, UC Davis women's lacrosse looks to bounce back against yet another former Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe who now plays in the Pac-12 Conference: Oregon. The 2-4 Aggies face the 2-2 Ducks on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The two programs are certainly familiar, with UC Davis having faced Oregon 17 times during 14 seasons. However, Aggie head coach Suzanne Isidor already has four reliable indicators on the Ducks' 2019 schedule. The two home opponents have been UC Davis road foes in Mercer and Jacksonville. Meanwhile, Oregon faced the Aggies' two MPSF leaguemates on neutral turf two weeks ago. The Ducks lost to both San Diego State and Fresno State in Las Vegas on February 15 and 17, respectively.

Junior attacker Sorana Larson paced the Aggies offensively with five goals in the two Bay Area games, and continues to hold the team lead with 14 goals and three assists for 17 total points. Senior midfielder-turned-low attacker Taylor Cuenin added 4-for-6 shooting for the weekend, while junior middie Maddie Myers netted her second hat trick of the year at Cal.
Sophomore midfielder Mar Alvear dominated the "hustle stats" for the Aggies, leading the team in draw controls (12), caused turnovers (4) and ground balls (5) in the two contests, with most of the defensive damage coming on Sunday against the Cardinal. The recent weekend also saw the return of goalkeeper Taylor Mathieson, who totaled nine saves in nearly 68 minutes of cage relief for senior starter Grace Richards.
"Against Stanford, we fought hard for 60 minutes and improved on a lot of the little things we've talked about," said Isidor, whose Aggie squad reduced its turnovers to a season-low 12, compared to the three straight games of 20-plus to start the year. "Everybody played and everybody contributed. Despite the loss, we felt better after the Stanford game."
Oregon holds a 2-2 record under the watch of new head coach Chelsea Gamble, the former Stanford assistant. Senior attacker Shannon Williams, who broke her own school record with 74 total points (41 goals, 33 assists) in 2018, again leads the Ducks with an 11-11-22 offensive chart. Williams is the lone returner from Oregon's panel of All-Pac-12 honorees last season.
"Oregon just beat Jacksonville by three. They're a talented team with a new coach, so they'll be different from last year," Isidor said. "Shannon Williams is legit, and they have some very good young players, so this will be another good test for us. We're full of good tests. It has been good to be challenged, both mentally and physically. We've learned a lot. We've come a long way in three weeks and learned a lot about ourselves. We've jelled as units, and some younger players are really stepping up."
