SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Senior outside hitter
Emily Allen recorded 20 kills and was later named as the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, as UC Davis beat host SCU by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 21-25, 25-13, 15-13 in the final match of the Santa Clara Invitational women's volleyball tournament at the Leavey Center Saturday.
The Aggies win their fourth straight match to improve to 7-2 for the year. The Broncos slip to 4-5 overall.

Malia Bolko each picked up 21 digs. Junior outside hitter
Lauren Matias added nine kills, with seniors
Brianna Karsseboom and
Lauren Jackson each providing eight kills and five blocks. Jackson hit an errorless 8-for-14 on the attack.
Bolko also earned all-tournament honors alongside Allen. Boise State's Jessie Brigham and Sabryn Roberts, plus SCU's Chloe Loreen and Michelle Shaffer also made all-tourney.
For SCU, Shaffer had 16 kills with just two errors for a .424 average.
UC Davis returns to action for Arizona's Wildcat Invitational next Friday and Saturday. The Aggies face New Mexico State and UT Martin on the first day, then the host Wildcats on Saturday morning.Â
MATCH NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS
 • UC Davis hit .486 (18-1-35) in the first set but just .073 and .094 in the second- and third-set losses. Allen had seven kills in the opener, while Merlino tallied nine digs as the primary setter.
 • The Aggies enjoyed a key 6-0 run to pull away to a 16-8 edge midway through the fourth, then maintained at least a seven-point lead the rest of the way to force the fifth.
 • Allen put down six more kills in the fourth, while Jackson and senior
Nicola Moore combined for 7-for-9 hitting.
 • Matias had a block assist and a kill during a run of five unanswered that flipped a 7-3 deficit into an 8-7 lead in the fifth. The Aggies protected that lead for the remainder. Matias and Jackson took part in two of the team's three blocks in the rubber set.Â
• Allen totaled 37 kills (4.11 per set) in the two Santa Clara Invite matches. Bolko collected 47 digs in the nine sets for a 5.22 average.
