DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore utility Jack Stafford scored three goals, including a power-play conversion during the Aggies' 3-0 finish, but 11th-ranked UC Davis fell to third-ranked California, 13-10, in non-conference men's water polo action at Schaal Aquatics Center Thursday.

The Aggies fall to 3-2 for the year. The Golden Bears remain undefeated at 5-0.

Stafford led eight total scorers for UC Davis. Max Somple, Ido Goldschmidt, Colter Knight, Keenan Anderson, Nir Gross, Kyle Reilly and Marcus Anderson each added one goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Jonah Addington relieved starter R.J. Quigley in the second quarter, and finished the game with eight saves.

Senior Vassilis Tzavaras led Cal with four goals, with Jordan Hoover and Safak Simsek each chipping in two more. Junior goalkeeper Bernardo Carelli notched 10 saves in his three quarters in front of the Bear cage.

UC Davis has a quick turnaround before its next competition, taking on No. 15 San Jose State and two-year program West Valley College in a doubleheader in Saratoga on Saturday.

GAME NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS
• After spotting Cal a 3-0 start, UC Davis stayed within striking range throughout: Goldschmidt's 5-meter goal cut the deficit to 5-3 to end the first, Stafford's second goal made it 10-6 at the start of the third quarter.

• Cal crafted a 12-6 lead after back-to-back Tzavaras goals, then freshmen Nir Gross and Mateus Stellet traded goals for the Aggie and Bears, respectively, to set the board at 13-7 entering the fourth. The Aggies scored three unanswered in the finale, with Reilly and Anderson finding the back of the net at 6:29 and 3:32, respectively. Stafford's 6-on-5 goal with 1:45 left made it 13-10.

• Addington posted three blocks in the fourth quarter, including one on a Cal power play.
