ERIN, Wisc. -- Sophomore Thomas Hutchison and freshman Daniel Kim each scored under par to finish among the individual top 10, highlighting UC Davis during Sunday's round of action at the Marquette Intercollegiate men's golf tournament at Erin Hills. Hutchison fired a 2-under-par 70 for a tie for fourth place, while Kim was a stroke back at 71 for a share of seventh.
The Aggies closed out the first 18 holes in a tie for sixth place with Utah. Both teams have totals of 4-over 292, just six strokes off the place of tourney leader Northwestern's 2-under 286. Iowa's Gonzalo Leal lead the individual medalist race at 5-under, with Northwestern's Lucas Becht and Arizona State's Alex del Rey trailing behind at 4-under and 3-under, respectively.Â
Hutchison, who birdied two holes on each of the front and back nines, shares fourth place with a pair of Ole Miss golfers, Cecil Wegener and Josh Seiple. Kim birdied 6, 7, 14 and 15 en route to his 71 total, putting him in a four-way chop for seventh. Senior Tanner Hughes, making his 2018-19 Aggie debut, shot an even-par 72 to take part in a nine-man tie for 11th place.
Fifth-year seniors Ryan Han and Jesse Bratz each scored 79 on Sunday to round out the UC Davis scoring. Sophomore Andrew Arnheiter, competing as an individual entrant, holds T35th place with his total of 75.
The Marquette Intercollegiate takes place at Erin Hills, the site of the 2017 U.S. Open. The par-72 course measures 7,869 yards, making it the longest ever to host a major championship. The tournament continues with a second round of 18 holes on Monday. UC Davis will tee off from the 10th hole starting at 9:55 a.m. local (7:55 Pacific).
