No. 7 UC Davis scores 37 goals in two Sunday wins

Aggies drop Top 20 teams Brown (18-6) and Saint Francis Brooklyn (19-4)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior utility Ido Goldschmidt recorded hat tricks on each end of the doubleheader, while sophomore Jack Stafford matched his career high of four goals in the opener, as No. 7 UC Davis scored an 18-6 win over No. 15 host Brown and a 19-4 victory against No. 19 Saint Francis Brooklyn on the second day of the Bruno Classic men's water polo tournament at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center Sunday.

The Aggies finish their season-opening weekend at 3-1.

Senior Marcus Anderson, Kyle Reilly and Goldschmidt added hat tricks in the morning win over the Bears, leading nine total Aggie scorers in the contest. Goldschmidt then led with three goals against SFC, with Colter Knight, Nick Coufal, Nir Gross, George Kuesis, Stafford and Anderson each chipping in two. Anderson finished the weekend with 11 total goals for the weekend.

UC DAVIS 18, BROWN 6 - NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS

• UC Davis led for the entirety of the contest, scoring six straight goals from the midpoint of the first quarter to the 2:27 mark of the second to build its initial lead.

• Stafford scored two goals in each half, while Goldschmidt poured in all three scores after the break. Both of Goldschmidt's goals in the fourth quarter took place during a 5-0 stretch for the Aggies.

• Stafford's four-goal output ties his performance in Saturday's Bruno Classic win over MIT, plus his four tallies in last year's Western Water Polo Association Tournament first-round win over Fresno Pacific.

UC DAVIS 19, SAINT FRANCIS BROOKLYN 4

• The Aggies never trailed in the game, scoring six unanswered in the first half, then finishing the game on a 5-0 run.

• Goldschmidt's two hat tricks on Sunday raises his career total to 27.
