DAVIS, Calif. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Jonah Addington recorded 21 saves in three halves of play, including a stop against a five-meter penalty shot in the Aggies' early-morning victory against Harvard, leading eighth-ranked UC Davis to a 2-1 day at the Aggie Roundup men's water polo tournament at Schaal Aquatics Center Saturday.

The Aggies defeated the Crimson by a 10-9 margin, lost by a 16-9 final against top-ranked USC at midday, then piled up a 19-10 win over Chapman in their evening contest. 

The Aggie Roundup spans three days and competed at both the Schaal Aquatics Center and the Woodland-based Charles Brooks Community Swim Center. However, UC Davis only played in Saturday's portion, with all three contests taking place at Schaal.

Senior Marcus Anderson led the Aggies in scoring with six total goals, including a hat trick in the nightcap against the Panthers. He was also the only UC Davis player to net at least one goal in all three games. Senior Ido Goldschmidt added five goals while sophomore Jack Stafford chipped another four for the day.

UC Davis kicks off Western Water Polo Association play at California Baptist on Saturday, Sept. 22. Game time is noon.

NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS
• Addington stopped Alex Tsotadze's five-meter penalty shot with the score tied at 9-9 and just 1:39 left in the fourth quarter in the 8 a.m. win over Harvard... UC Davis briefly trailed at 9-8 earlier in the period, then equalized on a Max Somple goal a minute before the penalty.

• Harvard, which converted just 4 of 12 power players against the Aggies, had an open look at the final buzzer but was unable to get the shot off in time... The Crimson later scored a 15-14 upset against No. 3 California later in the afternoon.

• UC Davis and Harvard engaged in four tie scores, including three straight from 7-7 through 9-9... Prior to that, Harvard held leads of 6-4 and 7-5 in the third quarter.

• The Aggies battled the Trojans to a 3-3 tie through the fist quarter before surrendering five straight goals in the second quarter plus a sixth consecutive to start the third. Goldschmidt and Anderson each scored second-half goals for UC Davis... Addington came to post six blocks in his second half of relief work in the cage.

• Addington added eight saves with five goals against in his second-half stint in Saturday's nightcap win over Chapman... Stafford, Goldschmidt and freshman Nir Gross completed hat tricks in the third quarter, while Marcus Anderson netted two four-quarter goals to complete his.

• The Aggies never trailed against the Panthers, running out to a 6-1 start through the first quarter... They got outscored in the second quarter to hold a 9-5 edge at halftime, but scored 10 goals after the break... The 19 total UC Davis goals matches the season high first set against Saint Francis on September 2.
