INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- The UC Davis women's tennis team started the match with the upper hand by sealing the doubles point and two singles match victories; however, it was No. 7 Cal Poly that came away with the final 4-3 victory over the No. 2 Aggies at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Friday afternoon.

The Aggies started the dual on a positive note after sealing the doubles point, giving them the 1-0 lead prior to singles play. UC Davis tandem Kristy Jorgensen and Kelsie Bryant garnered the first doubles win after defeating the Mustang's Abigail Bacarach and MacKenzie Worsnop, 6-2, at the No. 1 position. Teammates Nikita Pradeep and Sara Tsukamoto followed directly behind to clinch the doubles point after their 6-1 win over Caroline Williams and Grace Olyphant at the No. 3 spot.

UC Davis widened their lead to a two-point difference after Tsukamoto left the courts with a straight-set win over her opponent Caroline Williams, 6-1, 6-1; however, Cal Poly's Molly Reed pushed through to win the No. 3 singles match to narrow the gap.

The Mustang's race to catch up was temporarily interrupted by UC Davis junior Isabella von Ebbe, who scored her team's third point with her straight-set win over Claire Bouquet, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 6 position; however, the opposing team fought to garner the next three singles match victories to take the the dual victory at a final 4-3 score.

UC Davis concludes their Big West Conference tournament with a 0-1 record, and their 2017-2018 season with a 15-7 overall record. By finishing with a 15-7 overall record, the Aggies posted, for the second season in-a-row, the second-highest total since joining the Big West Conference prior to the 2007-2008 season.

The Mustangs improve to 7-13, and will advance to the semifinals, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday morning.

This quarterfinal match also marked the final appearances for Jorgensen and Lani-Rae Green, who competed regularly at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles and at the No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles, respectively, as well as for Jessie Lee, who made a couple of appearances this season at No. 6 singles.

The Aggies were led this season in singles play by sophomore Nikita Pradeep, who recorded 15 wins during the 2018 dual season. This marks the second time in as many seasons where Pradeep led the team in most singles wins. Teammates Green, Tsukamoto, and von Ebbe also finished their season with more than 10 singles wins during the dual portion of the season. The first of the three ended her Aggie career with a 12-6 singles record, while Tsukamoto and von Ebbe concluded their freshman and junior season with a 13-7 and 11-6 singles record, respectively.

In doubles play, Green and partner Kristina Breisacher led all the UC Davis duos with a total of 11 victories, while Aggie pairs Jorgensen and Kelsie Bryant, as well as Pradeep and Tsukamoto, led in second with six wins apiece.
