CHANDLER, Ariz. - Junior Ryan Han carded a season-best 3-under-par 69 to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place, helping UC Davis to a share of fourth place after the final round of action at Wyoming's Cowboy Classic, held at the Whirlwind Golf Club Tuesday.
The aerospace engineering student from Hollister poured in birdies on the eighth, 17th, 18th and second holes in his final round, vaulting him six spots from his starting position. Han's previous best round of 2018 was a 1-under 71, set at the Southwestern Invitational back in late February. UC Davis also enjoyed top-20 finishes from juniors
Brandon Baumgarten and
Tanner Hughes, each of whom fired 2-under-par 70s on Tuesday to close out with 215 total strokes. Freshman
Thomas Hutchison shot his third straight 1-over 73 to finish with 219 strokes, good for a piece of 40th place. Sophomore
Matt Robinson rounded out the Aggie team entrants with a 79, finishing up in t69th. Junior
Jesse Bratz, representing UC Davis as an individual participant, added a 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 34th place at 218 strokes. UTSA's Sean Meehan edged McNeese's Blake Elliott for the individual medalist honors. Meehan shot a 4-under 68 to close out with 205 strokes, 11 under par and one in front of Elliott. UTSA also claimed the team championship with a 22-under-par 842 total. Sam Houston State placed second at 18-under, while host Wyoming was third at 17-under. UC Davis and fellow Big West Conference member Long Beach State chopped up fourth place with matching 10-under 854 team scores. The Cowboy Classic took place on Whirlwind's 7,334-yard, par-72 Cattail Course. UC Davis has a short week before hosting the El Macero Classic on Friday through Sunday.
