Beattie continues to break records

Feb. 23, 2018

SEATTLE, Wash. - To highlight the Aggies' first day at the MPSF Championships, junior jumper Erinn Beattie broke the high jump record for the third time in as many weekends with a first-place jump of 1.83m/6-0.00 to help her to a second place finish in the pentathlon with 4,062 points, also a new school record, while as a team, the UC Davis women's indoor track and field squad finished in 11th place after seven scored events.

Beattie's 1.83m/6-0.00 high jump bested the previous school record, set by her at this season's Don Kirby Invitational, by 0.05m. In addition, the Ventura, Calif., native became the first female athlete in UC Davis history to reach a high jump measurement of six feet. In the pentathlon, Beattie's 4,062 points bumped down the previous record-holder Caroline Sheldon's 3,453 points earned at the 2005 MPSF Championships. In addition to these two accomplishments, the junior went on to win the first-place title in the pentathlon's long jump event with a 5.78m/18-11.75 measurement, while scoring a second-place finish in the pentathlon's 800 meter run with a 2.18.69 time.

The new UC Davis women's high jump and pentathlon record holder is now tied for 16th in the nation for the high jump, while carrying a 15th-place national ranking for the pentathlon.

Looking at the other Aggie contingents, Stasia Kubicki got the highest pole vault jump in the Flight 1 group with a 3.75m jump, good for a seventh-place tie in the all-time record book, while sprinter Kierra Davis placed second in the 60 meter hurdles' Heat 1 prelims, as well as third in the 60 meter dash's Heat 2 prelims with times of 8.80 and 7.58, respectively.

Davis's 7.58 time puts her in a tie for third in the record books with sprinter Natsumi McGee, who finished in third under the Heat 8 prelims on the first day of the MPSF competition.

Sophomore distance runner Haley Adel clocked a 5,000 meter time of 17:15.66, good for fourth place in the UC Davis indoor record book.

The UC Davis women's indoor track and field squad returns to the tracks tomorrow morning for their second and final day of action at the MPSF Championships.
