61853DAVIS, Calif.
— In the 11th year of the Doc Adams Invitational, held at the Putah Creek Reserve, junior Julia Lemak took home the individual title in the women's 6K.

"The conditions were rough, but we packed together well mid-race" said Lemak. "I am proud of my teammates and looking forward to regionals next week."

Featuring a field of 39 women representing Chico State, Santa Clara, and various club and unattached runners, Lemak raced well from within the pack, emerging with a lead of nearly 30 seconds at the finish. In winds gusting over 20 miles an hour, Lemak managed to hold steady, completing the race in 22:33.9.

"Julia [Lemak] had a fantastic race, and she needed that going into regionals next week," said head coach Emma Petersen. "The win really showed her strength, and we're looking forward to seeing what she can do [at regionals], and what the team can do."

Also racing in the women's field were freshmen Anaya Ward and Marie Navarro, along with redshirt freshman Anya Sturm, who raced unattached. Ward finished in third, with a time of 23:04.3, and Navarro crossed in 14th (24:14.3). Sturm had a top ten finish, with a time of 23:22.3.

"Anaya [Ward] had a really strong finish, and it was so nice to see her at the front. I think she'll take a lot from this and she's also going to be racing regionals. Today was a good experience for our women to go ahead and just practice what they need to be doing when they're in a competitive field," Petersen said.

In the men's 8K, freshman Derek Lin was the first finisher for the Aggies, crossing 20th with a time of 26:33.9, followed closely by junior Fenn Hoppe (23rd, 26:52.5). Junior Zachary Katzman posted a season-best time of 27:21.0 in 28th place, and freshman Wade Kiesow crossed in 31st place (27:30.9).

Petersen said, "for the men, Derek [Lin] had a really strong race, and it was a nice way for him to finish his season. We're still kind of training the men to be more competitive in a race [at the] college level and that was another step forward today. We'll move forward with the men's team, taking some individuals to regionals, but hopefully, as a group next year they'll be much more experienced and that's kind of what today was about."

Neither the men's nor the women's team fielded five runners for scoring, resulting in no team results. The Aggies will next race at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on Friday, Nov. 9. Along with an NCAA National bid, Causeway Classic points will be on the line, as UC Davis will compete alongside Sacramento State.
