Feb. 9, 2017 DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's indoor track & field will engage in a split-squad weekend, with the majority of the team returning to the University of New Mexico for the second time in as many weekends to compete in the Don Kirby Invitational. Additionally, seniors Rianna Goins and Christine Hoffman will head north to Dempsey Indoor to participate in the Husky Classic.
Goins comes off a UNM Classic in which she set a school record and qualified for the USATF Indoor Championships with her 1:31.60 in the 600 meters. She will race the seventh heat of the 800 at Washington this weekend, shortly before Hoffman run in the third heat of the 3,000. Hoffman ranks fourth in school indoor history with her 9:30.59 at the Washington Invite two years ago. Besides Goins' record, UC Davis rewrote several of its all-time indoor performers lists during last weekend's meet at the ABQ Convention Center.
Natsumi McGee's 7.58 in the 60 meters now ranks third in program history, while
Kierra Davis' collegiate debut of 7.76 in the same event puts her fifth. Sophomore
Mikaela Adolphus finished fifth in the 400 with a 55.68 time, third in Aggie annals.
Olivia Goins made her collegiate indoor debut in the same race as her twin sister, with her 1:38.71 time checking in at No. 5 in school history. Among the field events, thrower
Michaela Mundt uncorked a weight throw of 17.66 meters, or 57 feet, 11.25 inches. She became just the third Aggie in history to break the 17-meter barrier. In addition to Hoffman's appearance in Seattle, this weekend's action will see several season debuts, including sprinters
Jazmen Bunch and
Khadija Imara, and middle distance runners
Shelby Hightower and Angela Carreras. Bunch and Imara were entered at the UNM Classic but did not race.
