Feb. 3, 2017

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Junior Evan Knight fired a 2-under-par 70 to move up 27 places on the individual leaderboard while UC Davis assembled a team score of 287 to ascend the team standings during the second round of action at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate men's golf tournament at the Waikoloa Kings' Course Friday afternoon.

The Aggies finished the day with a 36-hole total of 582, tying them for 15th place with Auburn. They now trail San Jose State by a single stroke and Saint Mary's by two. UC Davis was 17th overall after Thursday's opening round. Knight, a third-year managerial economics major from Novato, birdied five holes for the day to improve his individual standing by 27 places to a tie for 68th place. Junior Ryan Han struggled in his first five holes but birdied the 17th, 18th and fifth to finish at 2-over-par 74 for the day. His two-round total of 143 puts him in a six-way tie for 45th, the best among UC Davis golfers. Senior Ben Corfee and freshman Matt Robinson each carded even-par 72s on Friday and made identical eight-place moves to 77th overall. Junior Brandon Baumgarten rounded out the Aggie contingent with his 1-over 73 during the second day. Rico Hoey, USC's three-time All-American, took over the individual medalist lead with his 9-under 63. He enters Saturday's action 14 strokes under par and three strokes ahead of Texas Tech's Fredrik Nilehn and Colorado's Ethan Freeman. The 21-team Amer Ari wraps up with 18 holes on Saturday. This is the 26th running of the tournament, held on Waikoloa Beach Resort's 7074-yard, links-style course. 2017 AMER ARI INTERCOLLEGIATE, DAY 2
