ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Senior Rianna Goins won the women's 600-meter run and qualified for the USATF Indoor Championships with a time of one minute, 31.60 seconds, highlighting UC Davis action at the New Mexico Classic indoor track & field meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center Friday.
Goins, a human development major from Anaheim Hills, California, surpassed the qualifying standard of 1:33.00. Not coincidentally, the USATF Indoor Championships take place at the ABQ Convention Center from March 3-5. Meanwhile, senior thrower

Natsumi McGee each posted the school's No. 3 all-time marks in their respective events. Mundt finished seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 17.66 meters, or 57 feet, 11.25 inches. That mark represents the best effort in that event by an Aggie since Chid Onyewuenyi set the school record of 18.63 meters (61-1.5) back in 2010. McGee crossed with a time of 7.58 in the 60-meter dash, good for 14th place in the meet and third in school history, just ahead of Cekarri Nixon's 7.74 from 2015. McGee's mark represents an improvement of 0.23 from her previous best, set at the UNM Classic one year ago, and advances her into Saturday's semifinals. "This is incredible. Kierra Davis at 7.76, now good for fifth in Aggie annals. Friday's meet is the collegiate debut for the freshman from Upland, California. Davis also led a trio of UC Davis competitors in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 19th at 9.43 seconds. Goins' time of 1:31.60 also becomes a school record for an event in which the Aggies began competing in 2016. Her previous best was 1:35.94 at a different UNM meet, last year's Don Kirby Elite. Erinn Beattie had the highest Aggie finish in an event, tying for fourth place in the high jump with a 1.65-meter leap (5-foot-5). She also finished one spot behind Davis in the 60 hurdles at 9.45. UC Davis has previously sent alumni to the USATF indoor championship, which dates back to 1959. Most notably, Cyndy Poor won the 800 meters back in 1977, while Lauren Wallace more recently posted a heralded upset to capture the 1,000 title in Boston in 2015. The New Mexico Classic concludes on Saturday. UC Davis will field competitors in the shot put, pole vault, 400, 800 and 60 semifinal during the second-day action.
