Results: Mesa Classic | ASU Sun Angel Classic

MESA, Ariz. - Freshmen Aspyn Walton and Mikaela Adolphus each turned in top-10 all-time performances in the 200-meter dash for the UC Davis men's and women's track and field teams as the Aggies opened a busy weekend in The Grand Canyon State with the Mesa Classic on Friday.

The Mesa Classic featured many of the competitors that will move over to the 37th annual Sun Angel Classic on Saturday. UC Davis will also participate in that meet.

Walton and Adolphus took the opportunity to shine on Friday. Walton finished sixth in the men's 200 with a time of 21.56 seconds, a PR by .13 which jumped him to No. 8 all-time at UC Davis. Adolphus took fourth in the women's 200 in 24.41, returning her to the top 10 at No. 6. It beat her previous PR of 24.61 from the Hornet Invitational last month.

Walton provided one of the other six top-10 placings for the UC Davis men on Friday with his 10th place in the 400 (49.56). Kyle Clancy had two, placing third in the high jump at 6 feet, 6 inches, and eighth in the 110 high hurdles in 14.81. Basil Okoroike was third in the triple jump (46-02.50) in an event contested on Friday night, Matthew Bender was fourth in the discus (165-2) and C.J. Edwards took fifth in the long jump (23-01.75).

The women had five finishes in the top 10 with Adolphus adding her second in the 400 where she placed second in 56.18. Emma Redick was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:01.10), Emily Antonino took sixth in the 1,500 in 4:47.96 and Rochelle Nadreau was timed in 2:14.70 for ninth place in the 800.

Bender and Michaela Mundt were two Aggies that also competed in throwing events at Arizona State on Friday. Bender was sixth in the men's hammer throw (174-4) while Mundt was 11th in the women's (172-1).

The Sun Angel Classic, which also features a high school program, begins with field events at 10 a.m. and collegiate/open running events at 3:22 p.m. The premiere portion of the meet has its opening ceremony at 5:50 and runs until 9:30 p.m.

UC Davis had three individual winners at last year's ASU Sun Angel Classic. Rianna Goins won the collegiate/open 1,500-meter run while Breanna Standifer captured the discus. Former Aggie Ben Parodi took first in the hammer for the Aggie men.
