Nov. 16, 2016 DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis sophomore utility Sasa Antunovic captured Kap7/Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honors for the second time in 2016 and the third time in his career, the league office announced on Wednesday. The All-WWPA first-team honoree is also the only player in the seven-team conference to win more than one such honor this season.
Originally from Korcula, Croatia, Antunovic scored a hat trick as the leading Aggie scorer in Saturday's home finale against No. 5 Pacific. The Aggies battled the perennial national power to just a two-goal deficit through three quarters, with Antunovic's goal cutting the margin to just 9-7 shortly before the fourth quarter. The former WWPA Freshman of the Year previously won WWPA Player of the Week distinction on October 19, mostly due to his six-goal output against Fresno Pacific. UC Davis heads to Santa Clara for the conference championship tournament from Friday through Sunday. The eighth-ranked and top-seeded Aggies look for their first WWPA title and NCAA postseason berth since 1997.
