Antunovic named WWPA Player of the Week

Oct. 19, 2016

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis sophomore utility Sasa Antunovic captured Kap7/Western Water Polo Association Player of the Week honors for the period ending October 16, the league office announced Wednesday. The former WWPA Freshman of the Year recipient is the first Aggie to earn such honors in 2016.

Antunovic, originally from Korcula, Croatia, shot a perfect 6-for-6 with two assists and two steals in Sunday's 18-6 rout of Fresno Pacific. The Aggies improved to 13-4 with the win, then moved up one spot to No. 9 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 20 Coaches Poll three days later. That ranking is the program's highest since holding No. 8 back in November of 2007. The six goals marks a new career high for Antunovic, who scored five in back-to-back games almost exactly one year ago. The second-year biochemical engineering major leads the Aggies in goals (31) while ranking second on the team in both assists (19) and steals (28). Antunovic earned first-team All-WWPA and honorable-mention All-America honors as a freshman in 2015. UC Davis hosts Air Force in WWPA play on Friday. First sprint at Schaal Aquatics Center takes place at 1 p.m.
