BREMERTON, Wash. - Junior Luke Vivolo shot a 3-under 69 and freshman Ryan Han backed him up with a 70 on Saturday as the UC Davis duo tied for 15th at 3 under for the Aggie men's golf team which tied for ninth overall at the NCAA Bremerton Regional at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

UC Davis was trying to rally into a top-five standing during Saturday's final round and put together its best round of the tournament with a 2-under 286. The Aggies finished 6 over for the 54-hole event while matching last year's placing at the NCAA Auburn Regional.

Sophomore Patrick Soli tied for 39th at 5 over after shooting 75 in on Saturday while senior Mike Brockington closed his UC Davis career with a 72 and a tie for 52nd place at 7 over. Senior Matt Seramin tied for 70th at 16 over after shooting 75 in his last round as an Aggie.

UC Davis, which was looking to advance to the NCAA Finals for the first time in its Div. I era, stayed within striking distance of a berth for most of the tournament despite being seeded 10th.

"We were in the hunt," said head coach Cy Williams. "If you would've told me at the start of the season on Sept. 7 that'd we be in the hunt going into the final day of the regional, I would've taken it eight days a week. We came up a little short for the second year in a row but we're starting to knock on the door and I think that bodes well for our future."

Four of the five teams moving on to the finals shot at least 10 under on the final day. UAB (-21) won the regional title by two shots over South Carolina (-19). USC (-17), TCU (-10) and host Washington (-10) also qualified. UC Davis tied with VCU for ninth place, just a shot behind Iowa State (+5). The Aggies were 10 shots ahead of the rest of the field.

"The reality is, if you look at all the regionals, not one team outside of the top 50 qualified for the finals," said Williams. "While we could have advanced had we played an exceptional tournament, at the end of the day, we've got to look to get our program into the top 50 and the top 40, because then I think if you look at the numbers, it'll probably be the time that we kick through that door."

Vivolo broke par for the second time in the regional, carding three birdies over his first nine holes to make his turn 1 under. His only blemish was a bogey on the par-3 fifth hole but he quickly got the stroke back with a birdie on the par-5 sixth.

Han nearly matched Vivolo, settling for his second straight 2-under 70. He bogeyed his opening hole -- the par-4 10th -- but then rattled off four birdies over his next seven holes to get to 3 under midway. He added two more birdies on his back nine to help him shoot in the red again.

Brockington put together his best round of the tournament, shooting 2 under on his front nine. He had three birdies overall to help him shoot par for the day. Soli was 4 over after nine holes but was 1 under the rest of the way, sparked by three birdies over a five-hole span. Seramin opened with a birdie and was just 1 over at his turn to help highlight his round.

UC Davis' five players played the back nine of the Olympic Course a total of 3 under.

Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington shot a final-round 67 to finish 13 under and win by four strokes over Kyle Mueller (-9) of Michigan and Martin Rohwer of UAB. Mueller earned an individual berth to the NCAA Finals as the top player not on an advancing team.

The tournament brings to a close another successful Aggie season. UC Davis finished the year ranked 56th by Golfstat after taking second in the Big West Conference, winning the El Macero Classic and posting six top-five finishes during the 2014-15 season.

The Aggies accomplished it all after losing one of its best all-time golfers, Matt Hansen, to graduation last year and having its No. 2 player, Ben Corfee, redshirt this season. UC Davis earned its second straight at-large berth to the NCAA Regionals -- evidence that it's program is recognized as one of the top in the country -- and its fifth postseason berth overall.

"It was a great season," said Williams. "We've got to be satisfied. You can't be lucky to get where we're at, you've got to be good. We had a really good season. We're proud of what we did. We're sad to see two of our great Aggies (Mike Brockington, Matt Seramin) finish.

"Luke and Ryan really played a strong event so I think that bodes well for us next year with those two guys coming back leading the team."
