DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis will head to Albany, New York, to compete in its first-ever match at the America East Field Hockey Championships. As the West Division's No. 4 seed, the Aggies will face University at Albany, the East Division's top seed and No. 8 team in the nation, in the tournament's opener and first-ever head-to-head meeting.

Hosted by the University at Albany, Thursday's quarterfinal will start at 11 a.m. (PT). A free video stream of this match is available at AmericaEast.TV - as is all other quarterfinal and semifinal contests.

The winner of Thursday's Aggies-Great Danes matchup will face the winner of Friday's quarterfinal between Pacific and New Hampshire.

SCOUTING ALBANY
When anyone talks about Albany field hockey, all discussions must start with junior midfielder Paula Heuser. The current NCAA Division I active career leader in points and goals is a big reason why Albany finished atop the East Division with a 16-2 overall record and ended the regular season with wins in its last seven matches.

Last season, Heuser was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's Northeast Region Player of the Year and received the 2014-15 Honda Sport Award Winner for Field Hockey; this season, the two-time All-America honoree and reigning America East Midfielder of the Year helped the Great Danes amass a 6-1 record at home - dropping its lone match to No. 2 North Carolina in early September.

That record is important to consider since last year's NCAA Final Four participant will host this year's conference championship.

Even though Albany sports numerous talented players on its roster, it's hard not to look at the numbers and see firsthand the impact Heuser has on her team. Hailing from Monchengladbach, Germany, she has scored nearly as many goals as the rest of the team combined (26-56), scored just as many goals as all 18 of the Great Danes' opponents combined, ended the year with 62 points, 101 shots (out of the team's 292) and 63 shots on goal (the rest of the team recorded a collective 100).

Thursday's meeting is the first involving Albany and UC Davis

TOURNAMENT SNAPSHOTS
Included below are one-liners for the other seven participants at the America East Field Hockey Championships. Teams are listed in the order of their division seed.

East Division
Albany: Defending America East Conference champions; will face UC Davis in the opening match of the tournament on Thursday
Maine: Its 17 victories are the most in program history since 2011; America East Co-Champions for the first time since 2005
New Hampshire: Junior midfielder Lindsey Nerbonne earned America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year honors as announced by the conference on Tuesday
Vermont: Enters the tournament with losses in six of its last seven matches

West Division
Stanford: Earned a No. 12 ranking in the most recent Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll and No. 10 in the NCAA's RPI listing
Pacific: Earned a No. 2 division seed since its goal differential during conference play was smaller than Stanford's; recorded the most victories since 2006
California: Ended the season in a three-way tie for first place in the West Division; ended the season with losses in its last five matches

THERE IS A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
By scoring the Aggies' final two goals in their come-from-behind victory versus Cal, on Senior Day, senior midfielder Jamie Garcia became the first Aggie in program history to score nine goals in a single season.

Garcia's goals total is a team-high mark; other scoring leaders in past seasons are:

2015: Jamie Garcia (9 goals)
2014: Kayla Wigney (6)
2013: Cloey LemMon (7)
2012: Cloey LemMon (8)
2011: Cloey LemMon, Emily Mecke (7)
2010: Nadia Namdari (8)
2009: Liz Siemion (5)

HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
Thanks to its come-from-behind Senior Day victory against Cal, UC Davis is ranked No. 46 in the NCAA's latest Rating Percentage Index report. This is the best RPI figure earned by the Aggies in program history.

At the end of the 2012 season, the Aggies received a program-low No. 57 RPI ranking when the NCAA released its final listing.

More commonly known as the RPI, this figure is used to rank sports teams based upon a team's win-loss record and its strength of schedule.

SHE SHOOTS… SHE SCORES!
UC Davis has recorded eight game-winning goals this season, matching a record originally set by the 2012 team.

COHEN CLAIMS THE TOP SPOT
No UC Davis goalkeeper has posted a lower goals against average, since the program returned to action in 2009, than junior Erica Cohen. With one regular season matches and at least one playoff match remaining, Cohen's 2.30 GAA is on pace to crush the current program low of 2.50 set by Lauren Sawvelle in 2010.

THEY SHARE BECAUSE THEY CARE
Jamie Garcia and Hannah Drawbridge enter this week's tournament with two and a team-high seven assists respectively, and are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in program history with 20 and 18 assists.

WHICH STICK DO YOU SILENCE?
Led by Jamie Garcia's three, sis different players - a list that also includes Courtney Hazy, Kat Jackson, Lauren Mewes, Kate Young and Kayla Wigney - have recorded a game-winning goal this year.

If a different player, compared to the list included above, scores a game-winner, this year's squad will set a new program high since the 2015 and 2012 teams share the program's record.

ADDING HER NAME TO AN EXCLUSIVE LIST… AGAIN
By collecting 11 saves in the Aggies' Sept. 6 matchup vs. No. 12 Louisville, junior goalkeeper Erica Cohen became the second Aggie to post a double-digit saves total in the program's history. Cohen's total is the seventh highest recorded in a single game, matching Lauren Sawvelle's effort at California on Oct. 10, 2009.

Prior to UC Davis' match against Louisville, Sawvelle set every top 10 total, including a program-high 16 which took place in the opening round of the 2009 NorPac Field Hockey Tournament vs. Radford (11/5) and at Stanford the following season (9/3).

Just over one month later, Cohen set a new career single-game high by posting 12 saves at Pacific - the fifth-highest total in program history.
