Salvatore signs with pro team in Switzerland

DAVIS, Calif. -- Former UC Davis point guard Brianna Salvatore has become the third Aggie to turn pro this off-season, signing a seven-month deal to play for Esperance sportive Pully in Switzerland's Ligue Nationale de Basket.

Salvatore, joins former teammates Kelsey Harris (Germany) and Sydnee Fipps (Portugal) in Europe for the upcoming season which, for her team, began on Sept. 26 against Riva Muraltese. Salvatore finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, in her 40-minute debut, following that up with a 20-point, 11 rebounds, seven assist, outing in the team's first win of the year over BC Winterthur.

For the season, Salvatore is shooting 42 percent from the field, averaging 14 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and six steals to start the year. She is one of two American-born players on the squad, joining Sheronne Vails, who played collegiately at Louisville.

Salvatore, who recently wrapped up a summer internship as a public relations specialist with the IDIAP Research Institute in Lausanne, Switzerland, before returning to the court, appeared in all 31 games for the Aggies as a senior, making 23 starts, and posting a career-high 62 assists while finishing tied for second on the team with 27 steals. She bounced back to average a career-best 3.9 points per game as a junior following a leg injury that cut short her 2012-13 season, setting career high with 18 points against Pacific that year.

Off the court, Salvatore was a star in the classroom, earning Big West Conference All-Academic Team honors the maximum three times.

Salvatore and her new squad continue their season on Sunday (Oct. 11) as they take on Fribourg, which features former Big West Player of the Year Kristina Santiago, a 2012 graduate of Cal Poly who is averaging 41.5 ppg and 13.0 rpg through the first two games.

The former UC Davis sharpshooter finished with 11 points, a pair of assists, and three steals in the second game of the season for the Red Dragons (0-2) against Eintracht Braunschweig. WSG '81 Koenigs Wusterhausen is in its first season in the German 2nd Bundesliga after earning promotion following the 2014-15 campaign.

Sydnee Fipps (Clube Desportivo Torres Nova, Portugal)
Her first foray into professional basketball ahead of her, Fipps and her new team officially open the season on Saturday (Oct. 10) against Clube Uniao Sportiva Ponta Delgada. She joins fellow NCAA Division I veterans Ezinne Kalu (Savannah State) and Shanice Steenholdt (Houston Baptist) on the roster for Head Coach Jose Monteiro's team.
