LOWELL, Mass. - For the second time in as many matches, UC Davis field hockey needed extra time to secure a result. Unlike last Thursday, it was the Aggies who had their hearts broken when UMass Lowell scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute from Wicked Blue Field in Lowell, Mass., to down UC Davis by a 3-2 score.

The Aggies will enter their 9 a.m., Sunday morning match at Northeastern with a 3-6 record; the River Hawks improved their mark to 4-5 with Saturday's result.

Even though UMass Lowell struck first in the 8th minute, the Aggies roared back to take a 2-1, halftime lead.

After receiving a pass from Agustina Singh, who was hovering around the top of the scoring arc, Kristin Rodgers recorded her fourth goal of the year when she beat

UML goalkeeper Kelsey Federico, to her right, in the 19th minute.

Five minutes later, a penalty corner taken by Linnea Whitney lead to Jamie Garcia's fourth goal of the season.

Rodgers and Garcia now share a team-high scoring total with Kayla Wigney; combined the trio is responsible for more than half of the Aggies' 21 goals scored.

Garcia lead all Aggies with three shots and was one of two players who also recorded two shots on goal. Both of Stephie Sabraw's attempts were on goal.

That 2-1, UC Davis advantaged remained untouched until Bianca Jones evened the score at two apiece in the 50th minute on the first of her two goals scored throughout the match.

After a fierce battle throughout the final 20 minutes of regulation, extra time was needed to determine a victor.

Twelve-plus minutes into the extra session, Chelsea Chronopolous' breakaway run led to the decisive goal of the day, scored as she fell to the turf after inadvertently tripping on a stick.

The result was an unfortunate one for a UC Davis squad that outshot UML, 12-10, and took six penalty corners - two times the amount of opportunities earned by the River Hawks.

With a victory, the Aggies would have built their first three-match win streak since 2012 when field hockey won its first three home games that season.
