SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Kira Rienecker and Murphy Nicholson each had their best performances of the day in the 800-meter run as the UC Davis duo finished competition in the heptathlon on Friday at the Mondo Mid-Major at Sacramento State.

The heptathlon - along with the decathlon - provided the opening events for the three-day meet which welcomed several schools as well as unattached and club competitors.

A pair of field events for each the men and women as well as 5,000-meter runs provided early opportunities for team points on Friday. Through three scored events posted, the Aggie women are in third place with 17 points while the men are tied for sixth with nine.

Utah State has 25 points for an early lead in the women's race while the host Hornets have 32 on the men's side. The multi-events were not added to team totals yet.

Rienecker finished with a season-high 4,240 points in the two-day event to place fifth among scoring competitors while Nicholson totaled 3,436 points, placing 10th. First-day leader Baiba Celma of Sacramento State tallied 5,174 points to beat runner-up Mandy Keifer (4,630) of Portland State.

Rienecker, who capped her opening day on Thursday by winning the 200, was edged at the finish line of the 800 by McKenzie Johnson of Utah State who crossed in 2 minutes, 19.90 seconds, barely ahead of Rienecker who was timed in 2:19.99. Nicholson was seventh in the field, finishing in 2:33.91.

Rienecker's time was worth 824 points while Nicholson scored 645. Rienecker added seventh-place finishes in the long jump (4.85m, 519 pts) and the javelin (25.57m, 393 pts) while Nicholson was ninth in the long jump (4.67m, 472 pts) and 10th in the javelin (19.74m, 284 pts).

In the limited track and field events that took place on Friday, Nicole Aha picked up eight team points with her season-best time in the 5,000 (17:29.30) while Katie Barber's third place in the high jump netted six. Diamonne Mitchell (7th) and Karlaina Gipson (8th) combined for the remaining three points.

The Aggie men scored all nine of their points in the long jump from Robert Neely (6.54m, 21-05.50) who was fifth, Igor Seriba who placed sixth and Will Guthrie who was seventh. Alexander Summers (15:17.64) and Simon Graves (15:34.24) had season-best times in the 5K.

The remaining events in the meet will be contested on Saturday at Sacramento State.
