SEATTLE, Wash. -
Lauren Wallace broke a 16-year-old school record in the 800-meter run, freshman
Ashley Marshall set a new mark in the 60 and junior
Emily Bush established a new Aggie best in the pole vault, highlighting UC Davis' action on Saturday at the UW Indoor Invitational hosted by Washington.
Wallace finished seventh overall in the 800 in 2 minutes, 8.58 seconds, breaking Suzy Jones' previous record of 2:10.78 which was set at the 1996 NCAA Division II Championships. Marshall went 7.74 in the 60-meter prelims, bettering the previous school record of 7.81 shared by Kelli Enos (2003) and teammate
Melanise Chapman (2010). She advanced to the final in the tough field,
Bush added UC Davis' final school record, not only breaking into the program's all-time top-5 list but making her first appearance at No. 1 after vaulting 3.82 meters (12 feet, 6.25).
"The women brought a good level of intensity to the second day and maintained focus until the final event of the meet," said Aggie coach Drew Wartenburg. "We talked with the team about competing first and letting results take care of themselves and when that approach yields PR performances and indoor records, it's hard to argue with the outcome."
In addition to the school records, UC Davis had five other marks impact the Aggies' all-time leaders' list, including two by senior
Ashley Hearn in the shot put and weight throw. Hearn moved up two spots to No. 3 in the shot after finishing fifth at 13.77 meters (45-2.25) with a PR of more than a foot, and then improved her No. 3 position in the weight throw, finishing seventh at 16.93 meters (55-6.50), a PR of almost four inches.
Other top-5 performances came from
Lauren Radke who moved up two positions to No. 2 in the pole vault after tying for 12th at 3.67 meters (12-00.50), a career-best by an inch-and-a-half.
Kayla Carter, who crossed the finish line of the 60-meter hurdles in 8.99 seconds, debuted at No.5 on that list while
Leslie Reed improved her No. 5 spot on the 60-meter chart with a time of 7.90.
The Aggies also got a strong performance from their 4x400 relay team of
Sarah Griffith,
Tonie Williams,
Melanise Chapman and Wallace who won its heat in 3:51.74 and was second overall, trailing only Washington (3:51.74).
The Aggies will return to Dempsey Indoor for the Husky Classic on Feb. 10-11.
