Complete Results

Senior Alex Wilright won the 400-meter hurdles at the Cal-Nevada Track and Field Championships for the third time while giving UC Davis four consecutive winners in the event and helping highlight the Aggies' performance at the two-day meet.

Wilright's title was worth 10 points to the UC Davis men who finished fifth overall with 59.50 points. The UC Davis women, behind a runner-up placing by Sirena Williams in the 100 hurdles, scored 37 points and were 10th in the final standings.

The men had several other top finishes including in the 110 high hurdles where Polly Gnepa (14.07) and defending champion Jazz Trice (14.29) crossed second and third, respectively. Gnepa finished second for the third straight year, continuing his string of consistently high finishes in the event.

Igor Seriba took third in the triple jump (47 feet, 10 inches) while Matt Council was fourth in the 400. Council was timed in 47.66 seconds which places him fifth all-time at UC Davis.

The 4x400 relay team of Council, Thomas Phillips, Steven Scarvelis and Wilright also scored points, taking third in 3:12.54. Also tallying points for UC Davis were Phillips who was sixth in the 400 hurdles (53.59), Ray Green who was eighth in the triple jump (46-01.25) and Jake Fuller who tied for sixth in the discus (160-09).

The 4x100 relay squad of Josh Fuchs, Kaio Sena, Gnepa and Trice added more points with its sixth-place time of 41.53.

Wilright also won Cal-Nevada titles in the long hurdles in 2007 and 2009, setting the school record of 50.60 during his win last year. Phillips kept the string going with his first-place finish in 2008 as UC Davis continued its recent dominance in the event at the Cal-Nevada Championships.

Williams earned a spot in the 100 hurdles finals for the second straight year to help pace the Aggie women after posting the fastest time in the preliminaries on Saturday at 13.59 seconds. She dipped below that clocking on Sunday, finishing with a time of 13.55 but was edged at the line by Lauren Williams of Cal State Fullerton (13.47).

The Aggies added points in both running and field events. Stephanie Eckels posted a PR in the triple jump by almost three inches, finishing third at 39-6.50, pushing her to fifth all-time at UC Davis. Ashley Hearn add fourth-place points in the discus with her throw of 153-3.

Freshman Melanise Chapman, who tied a school record in the 100 (11.86) on Saturday, was fifth in the final at 12.15 while Mina Mohamadi took ninth (12.38). Lauren Wallace also advanced to a final, finishing eighth in the 800 in 2:14.85.

The remaining Aggie points came from their 4x100 relay of Eckels, Chapman, Williams and Mohamadi who took seventh in a season-best 47.01.

UC Davis posted its strong finishes at the Cal-Nevada Championships despite not competing in any distance events and only having a limited team at the meet. The Aggies sent most of their distance crew to the Stanford Invitational on Friday night where it enjoyed standout performances.

The Aggies will return to competition on Saturday when it competes at the Johnny Mathis Invitational at Sacramento State.
