LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Davis women's swimming team completed the second day of action at the Arena Invitational at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. and earned top 20 finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.
The 200 medley relay of Joann Liang, Lisa Bender, Megan Leung and Katelyn Griffin finished 18th overall with a time of 1:48.33 to start the day while Alyssa Britt followed with a 59th place finish in the 400 individual medley. Britt clocked in with a season-best time of 4:45.88 and Jessica Nicholson recorded a time of 4:51.62, also a season-best.
In the 100 butterfly, Leung finished 44th overall with a time of 57.93 while Griffin was 49th in the event, clocking in with a season-best time of 58.31. Other finishers included freshmen Karley Troup (58.61) and Emily Rodgers (1:02.86) while Britt (1:03.14), Buffy Ajimura (1:03.80) and Maya Sprinsock (59.83) turned in exhibition times.
Bridget Bugbee led the 200 freestyle for UC Davis, placing 50th overall in a season-best time of 1:54.44 while Liang finished 68th (1:56.37). Madeline Talt, Ajimura and Alex Wells rounded out the Aggie finishers.
Bender finished 44th in the 100 breaststroke, recording a season-best time of 1:06.86 while Sprinsock and Britt finished 58th and 60th, respectively.
In the 100 backstroke, Ashley Chandler placed 38th with a time of 58.24 and was followed by Liang who was 46th overall in a time of 59.02, a season-best for the freshman. Victoria Pichay and Wells recorded times of 1:02.02 and 1:11.06, respectively.
UC Davis finished the day by placing 17th in the 800 freestyle relay as Sprinsock, Nicholson, Troup and Talt combined for a time of 8:03.11.
The Arena Invitational concludes Saturday with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 1650 freestyle as well as the 400 freestyle relay.
