DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis was edged by UC San Diego, 168.5 - 125.5, in a nonconference meet Saturday at Schall Aquatics Center but that did not dampen the energy and excitement on display throughout the meet that ended with a thrilling 200 free relay win for the Aggies in the final race of the event when the UC Davis "A" team of Ciara Looney, Elise Ramsden, Sophi Mackay and Naomi Boeghom took the lead on the third leg and then held off the Tritons down the stretch.

"I thought our group did a really nice job of racing tough," head coach Matt Macedo said. "Winning the 200 free relay at the end of the meet was exciting … it's fun to win the last relay."

The performance from the 200 free relay team was one of the Aggies' six event winners on Saturday. Ella Ackerman (800 free, 2:00.88) and Ramsden (100 free, 51.06) won swimming events outright, while Boegholm shared a 100 free victory with UC San Diego's Maddie O'Connel in 23.40. Katherine Lim swept the 1 and 3 meter diving competitions.

UC San Diego does not field a diving team but Katherine Lim was the top diver among all Aggies in both 1 meter (286.50) and 3 meter (298.13).  

UC Davis had a notable 1-2 finish in the 100 free with Boegholm taking second behind Ramsden in 51.54.

In the 200 fly, Madison McCormick finished third with a time of 2:01.31 that made her the ninth performer on the Aggies' all-time top 10 list for the event.

"This was our last opportunity to rehearse for a pretty important midseason meet," Macedo said. "As much as we wanted to compete with UC San Diego, we also wanted to see progress in each of our swims."

UC Davis' divers will be back in action Nov. 12-14 at the Trojan Diving Invite in Los Angeles, while the swimmers return to the pool Nov. 18-21 at the Trailblazer Invite hosted by Utah Tech in St. George, Utah.
