DAVIS, Calif. - The UC Davis women's swimming and diving team won 10 of 16 events, including 3-meter diving, to take a 170-124 victory over Fresno State Saturday in a nonconference dual meet at Schaal Aquatics Center in Davis, Calif.
UC Davis now owns an overall dual meet record of 6-2 on the year.
The 200 freestyle "A" relay of Ashley Chandler, Lisa Bender, Linda Hermann and Megan Leung combined to win the first event of the day in a time of 1:37.03, narrowly edging out Fresno State's "A" relay who finished second with a time of 1:37.53.
Grace Benefield and Sabrina Cochrane would pick up back-to-back wins in the 1000 freestyle and 200 freestyle, respectively. Benefield's time of 10:33.72 in the 1000 free was a season-best for the sophomore, while Cochrane clocked in at 1:55.34 to win the 200 free.
Linda Hermann's win in the 100 backstroke bolstered the Aggies' overall score as she touched the wall first in a time of 58.01, a season-best. Hermann outtouched Fresno State's Heidi Gjoen who finished second with a time of 58.12.
Heidi Kucera and Liliana Alvarez went one-two in the 100 breaststroke. Kucera finished first in a time of 1:04.00 while Alvarez' second place time was 1:04.29.
Karley Troup and Jenah Dawson then took the top two places in the 200 butterfly with Troup winning the event in a time of 2:08.67 while Dawson was just behind her in a time of 2:09.29.
Fresno State's first win of the day came in the 50 freestyle as Danielle Yoho edged out Kayleigh Foley and Chandler for first place. Yoho clocked in at 23.78, while Foley's mark of 24.19 was good enough for second place. Chandler recorded a time of 24.26 to finish third.
UC Davis would sweep the 100 freestyle, taking the top four places in the event, and were led by Foley's winning time of 52.06. Kucera finished second with a time of 52.69 while Hermann (52.95) and Chandler (53.17) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Heidi Gjoen picked up a second win for the Bulldogs in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 2:06.96 which was just ahead of Aggie freshman Joann Liang's time of 2:06.38.
Freshmen Alvarez, Maya Sprinsock and Leung would win the next three individual events for UC Davis.
In diving, Fresno State swept the top three spots in the 1-meter event as Stacey Luke took first place with a total score of 168.00. Erica Stricker was UC Davis' top finisher with a score of 146.70. Jennifer Meyer led the Aggies on the high board, winning the event with a final score of 224.10.
UC Davis travels to compete at the Arena Invitational beginning Thursday, Nov. 18. The three-day meet will be held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif.
