DAVIS, Calif. - Matt Herman set a Schaal Aquatics Center record and the UC Davis men's swimming team defeated UC Santa Barbara for the first time in the Aggies' Big West Conference era. With the 154-140 win, the UC Davis men are now 7-0 while UC Santa Barbara drops to 4-2.

Herman's time of 4:31.62 in the 500 freestyle was a season-best for the junior and bested the 2008 record of 4:32.25 set by Denver's Blake Worsley.

Morgan Lee was the women's only individual event winner as the Aggie women fell 181-111. Lee clocked in at a season-best time of 1:05.72 to win the 100 breaststroke, her first individual win in a dual meet this season.

The men's 200 medley relay team of Daniel Donnelly, Scott Weltz, Adam Yen and Russ Underwood earned the first Aggie victory of the day after UC Santa Barbara's "A" squad was disqualified. The Aggies finished with a time of 1:32.82.

The UC Davis men went on to sweep the top three spots in the 1000 freestyle to extend their lead. Adam Borchard clocked in at 9:39.64 to finish first and was followed by Reid Hartz in second and Alex Rossbach in third. Hartz' time of 9:41.36 was a season best as was Rossbach's mark of 9:46.91.

Linda Hermann was the Aggies' top finisher in the 200 freestyle. She finished second behind UC Santa Barbara's Katie Stover with a time of 1:53.86. Hermann also finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.03 and third in the 200 individual medley (2:09.76).

Ashley Chandler turned in three second-place finishes for the UC Davis women's side. In the 100 backstroke, she clocked in at 56.83 and was narrowly outtouched by UCSB's Naomi Javanifard who came in first with a time of 56.73. Chandler was also second in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle with times of 23.98 and 52.06. Her time in 100 freestyle was a lifetime best.

For the UC Davis men, Scott Weltz was victorious in the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 1:49.85 and came in first in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.70). He helped seal the Aggie win with a first place finish in the 200 IM (1:52.07).

Daniel Donnelly also picked up a crucial win for the UC Davis men with a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Donnelly clocked in at 49.90, edging out UC Santa Barbara's Chris Wiggin and Danny McClary who finished second and third, respectively.

The Aggies closed out the day with a third-place finish for the women in the 400 freestyle relay and a narrow second-place finish for the men. UC Santa Barbara's "A" squad of Scott Vogelgesang, Christopher Peterson, Joseph Plume and Kevin Ferguson edged UC Davis' "A" team of Russ Underwood, Alex Daneke, Derek Baldwin and B.J. Scoggan by a mere 0.25 seconds to take the win in the relay.

UC Davis hosts UC San Diego Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Schaal Aquatics Center. The Aggies will also honor eight swimmers and divers as part of Senior Day.
