CHICO, Calif. - UC Davis newcomer Anikia Jackson won five of seven events over two days to score 4,658 points and claim top honors on Friday in the heptathlon at the Chico Multi Meet, leading three Aggies in the top four.
Freshman Johanne Boulat finished third for UC Davis with 3,994 points while Tiffany Knox - competing in her first-ever heptathlon - took fourth with 3,704 points. All three maintained positions they held after Thursday's opening four events. Jackson and Boulat also moved into the Aggies' all-time top-10 charts with their finishes.
Jackson, who won the state junior college heptathlon title last year while at Bakersfield College, added event first-place finishes at Chico in the long jump and javelin on Friday after winning the 100-meter hurdles, shot put and 200 on Thursday.
Jackson scored 654 points in the long jump (5.34 meters), 631 in the javelin (38.10 meters) and then ended her day with 629 points in the 800-meter run (2:35.19). Her first meet as an Aggie vaulted her to No. 3 on the program's all-time list.
"It was a good meet for her," said coach Jon Vochatzer. "She was in a comfort zone for what she was doing. I think she did really well."
Boulat's best event in the two-day competition came in the culminating 800 in which she scored 760 points after crossing in 2:24.75. She earlier tallied 570 points in the long jump and 360 in the javelin. Her overall score puts her seventh all-time at UC Davis.
Knox also enjoyed her best-scoring event in the last one, finishing the 800 in 2:27.03 for 731 points. She also had 350 in the long jump and scored 453 in the javelin. She just missed cracking the Aggies' top 10.
"I think all three did very, very well," said Vochatzer.
