CHICO, Calif. - UC Davis' Anikia Jackson won three of the four heptathlon events on the first day of the Chico Multi Meet on Thursday, scoring 2,744 points to lead three Aggies in the top four heading into Friday's final three events.
Jackson leads Kelly Clancey of Chico State by 168 points. Clancey finished first in the high jump at 1.59 meters, the only event that Jackson didn't finish first, and finished the first day with 2,576 points. Johanne Boulat of UC Davis is in third with 2,304 points while the Aggies' Tiffany Knox is fourth with 2,170 points.
Jackson opened the day strong, finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.28 seconds while racing into a headwind of minus-1.9 meters per second. That scored her 805 points while her top marks of 34 feet, 2 inches in the shot put and 26.03 in the 200 netted her 556 and 795 points, respectively. Jackson was third in the high jump, tallying 588 points with an effort of 4-9 3/4.
Boulat was second in the 100 hurdles, scoring 691 points after finishing in 16.48 seconds for her best score of the day. She added 680 points in the day-ending 200 after crossing in 27.39. Knox had her best event in the high jump, taking second at 4-11, while finishing fourth in the shot put to score 444 points.
Competition in the eight-athlete field finishes on Friday with the long jump, javelin and 800.
