Complete Stanford Invitational Results
STANFORD, Calif. - UC Davis senior Kim Conley broke her own school record in the 5,000-meter run on Friday night at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 16 minutes, 17.51 seconds, earning a spot at the NCAA Div. I Region Championships alongside teammate Lorin Scott who qualified earlier in the day.
Scott earned a spot at the postseason meet by winning her section of the 5,000 in 16:44.77, a personal-best by more than 18 seconds. The qualifying time for regionals is 16:52.00.
Conley grabbed a regional berth for the second consecutive year, doing so on Friday night by going under the 16:23.58 she achieved last season. That mark broke a 23-year-old school record held by former Aggie great Patty Gray. Conley raced in Stanford's top section of competitors, a race that was won by Maureen McCandless of New Balance in 15:34.31.
"She did a great job," said UC Davis women's coach Deanne Vochatzer. "It was a tough race, a gutsy race for her."
Scott earned her first regional berth with her impressive run at Stanford. Scott, whose previous best in the event came last season in 17:02.27, won her race by just under 10 seconds and was the only competitor in the 26-person field to earn a regional time. Her mark also moved her from No. 8 to No. 5 on the program's all-time list.
UC Davis had eight competitors at Stanford on Friday.
The majority of the Aggie team will be at UCLA on Saturday and Sunday for the Cal-Nevada Championships.
