CRESWELL, Ore. -- Senior Matt Marshall shot 72 in the final round of the Oregon Duck Invitational and tied for 11th on Tuesday as the UC Davis men's golf team finished 10th at the 54-hole tournament contested at the par-72, Emerald Valley Golf Club.
UC Davis began the day in fourth place but a final-round 309 dropped it to 10th at 901. San Diego State won the event for the first time since 2006 and the fourth time overall, posting an 11-shot win over Oregon State and Oregon. The Aztecs had a 292 on Tuesday to finish at 9-over 873. The Aggies were just two shots behind Idaho and Washington State and four back of seventh-place Portland.
Marshall, who qualified for match play at last summer's U.S. Amateur, led the Aggies in the final round with his 72, his best round of the two-day event and tying Austin Graham for the team's lowest of the tournament. That tied him for 11th at 5-over 221 with three other golfers and gave him his third consecutive top-20 finish. It was also his best placing since a fifth-place showing at Washington last October.
Ramie Sprinkling tied for 25th, four shots behind Marshall, after carding a 78 on Tuesday. Austin Graham also had a 78 and tied for 33rd at 226 while Nate Pistacchio posted an 83 to tie for 46th. Phil Huffman shot 81, placing 60th.
T.J. Bordeaux became Pacific's first winner of the Oregon Duck Invitational, shooting 74 over the final 18 holes and ending at 6-under 210. That was good enough for a five-shot win over Joey Benedetti of Oregon and a six-stroke advantage over Aaron Goldberg of San Diego State.
The Aggies return to action at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Apr. 7-8.
