LONG BEACH, Calif. - Junior Alex Arbios recorded an NCAA consideration time in the 500-yard freestyle and sophomore Heidi Kucera finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley with an NCAA consideration and school record time to highlight the Aggies' second day at the Big West Championships at Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool Thursday.

The men scored a meet-best 66 points in the 500 free and now sit second overall behind UC Santa Barbara with 303 points. The women are fourth overall with 185 points behind the Gauchos, Pacific and UC Irvine.

Arbios followed yesterday's third-place finish in the 1,000 free with a runner-up finish in the 500 free. His time of 4:27.22 was an NCAA consideration time, making him the first Aggie swimmer of the season to earn that distinction. He led a group of five Aggies who finished in the top 10 in the event. Senior Kyle Leto finished third overall in 4:31.33 and was followed by freshman Adam Borchard's fourth-place time of 4:31.74. Freshman Matt Herman and senior Lars Rockholm rounded out the solid Aggie showing with 8th and 10th-place finishes, respectively.

Kucera also hit an NCAA consideration time in the 200 IM. She finished fourth in 2:03.45, which was almost a second faster than the consideration mark and just .09 seconds faster than her previous school record. Junior Mary Struempf put in a top 10 showing as she finished eighth in 2:07.09.

Freshman Amanda Holman and sophomore Evan Kraus had the Aggies' best finishes in the 50 free with sixth- and seventh-place showings in their respective races. Holman was sixth in 23.60 while Kraus finished seventh with his time of 20.81.

Senior Russell Taylor was the top Aggie finisher in the men's 200 IM with a time of 1:52.71, which placed him seventh. Freshman Linda Hermann had a season-best time of 4:59.95 in the 500 free to finish sixth.

Both Aggie teams finished fourth in the 400 medley relays. Freshman Paul Navo capped Aggie finishes with a fifth-place showing in the 1-meter diving.

The third day of the Big West Championships begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. Finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. Live stats and streaming video can be accessed on bigwest.org.
